Angry Birds is getting a movie adaption. Not really surprising that. What is surprising, is that it may actually be a quality film, thanks to the top class producers attached.
The
Angry Birds movie is tentatively scheduled to release 2016, the games developer Rovio Entertainment announced.
Iron Man's David Maisel is filling the executive producer chair, alongside John Cohen, who worked on the
Despicable Me animated movie.
Whats interesting about the Angry Birds film is that Rovio plans to produce and finance it entirely independently without any Hollywood studio help. Rovio will be able to "retain full creative control while creating innovative entertainment at the highest level of quality".
Before taking on
Angry Birds, Cohen was vice president of production at Twentieth Century Fox Animation, where he produced some major animated films including
Ice Age,
Robots, and
Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who.
"I've personally spent countless hours playing the
Angry Birds games over the last few years, which I can now happily justify as research for the movie," Cohen said in a statement.
Maisel is a former chairmen at Marvel Studios and and worked on the entire Marvel movie catalogue including
Captain America: The First Avenger,
Thor, The Incredible Hulk and the
Iron Man films.
