Monday Wake Up: 12/11/2012

Another Monday and Monday Wake Up Call (tm).

Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was filled with videogames and struggling to record a video, which I will try and post later if everything goes well. May even make it a weekly video.

This week I found some interesting news. So let's get started shall we?

Writer and Director Talks Development of Uncharted Golden Abyss:

An interesting read to say the least. A post-mortem regarding the development of Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

The article mainly focuses on the challenges of creating a game for a new platform, fan response to the game and focus tests that changed how the game ended.

It’s lengthy but worth reading if you wish to know what goes on when AAA game for a new platform needs to be developed.

Hisashi Suzuki says Square Enix merger was a failure:

In a tweet from the former head of Square stated that he sees the merger of Square Enix a failure.

Square Enix has posted their financial losses for this year, showing considerable drop on Market price since 2003. In Suzuki's mind, this translated to a failure and the company not having a vision of the future.

"Market capitalization of 124 billion yen. 150 billion was also before the merger with Enix. Merger will fail completely. There is no vision for the future. Development costs 5.4 billion yen deficit last month, 4-9 Sukueni HD is burden Nihon Keizai Shimbun" - Google translation of Hisashi Suzuki

New Humble Bundle for Android!:

It's that time again people, new humble bundle is out, boasting some really great games such as Splice, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery & Machinarium to name a few.

So, if you can, support charity, for the kids.

Even Final Fantasy XIV shutting down servers had problems:

I'm no MMO fan, I own guild wars 1 and 2, finished the story in one and hardly play 2. Final Fantasy XIV was to be my way to get into the franchise since I like Final fantasy games (before XIII, you.. you just go to the corner and think about what you did).

Now with Square Enix rebooting the game and calling it Final Fantasy XIV: A realm Reborn, you'd want to see how the old world ends right?

An article on Kotaku shows that this did not go down as planned. Connection errors, login problems, error screens. A lot more than what you should be expecting when people just want to see a world end.

You can read the full story and experience here.
