An assortment of classes that defy logic, gameplay that inspires creative thinking, clothing accessories that would make the macho’s of men giddy and of course weapons. Lots of weapons – you can fly, charge, bomb, burn, stab, scare and even mock your enemies to death.
Let’s take a look at 5 reasons why you should be playing Team Fortress 2 (TF2).
1. The classes
Some people think they can outsmart me. Maybe…[sniffs] maybe. I've yet to meet one that can outsmart bullet. The Heavy on intelligence
Team Fortress 2 provides nine classes to choose from. This does not mean you have nine different guns or abilities, no sir; the gameplay that each TF2 class gives is unique, diverse and challenging to the point of insanity, (I’ve been playing medic for almost five years, and I still haven’t mastered all its aspects). Let’s take a brief look at each of the classes.
The Scout is the fastest mercenary on the battlefield. He can double jump and change direction mid-air to avoid anything the enemy throws at him.
The Soldier can in defiance of all good sense and judgement, point his rocket launcher downward, leap into the air and fire, propelling him skyward, reaching areas off-limits even to the Scout.
The Pyro specializes in fighting enemies at close range using a Flamethrower, he excels at ambushing and hit-and-run tactics.
The Demoman is the demolitions expert he bounces his grenades at creative angles to wreak havoc and his stickybombs are a perfect tool for area denial.
The Heavy-weapons guy boasts the biggest gun in TF2, what he lacks in speed he makes up for in sheer fire power, extra health and a body that serves as meat shield.
The Engineer specializes in constructing and maintaining buildings that teleports, heals, protects and provides ammunition for his team.
The Medic is the team’s man of medicine, not only does he provide healing and buff teamies, with his mighty ubercharge he makes players invulnerable.
The Sniper’s role on the battlefield is to pick off important enemy targets using his Sniper Rifle's ability to headshot. He can also pin down enemies at chokepoints and pick off the unfortunates that linger on a spot to long.
The Spy relies on stealth and trickery to aid his team. He can render himself invisible or even fake his own death, thereby catching unaware opponents off-guard and open for a back stab.
2. Fun competitions
“Son, I’m gonna blow that dumb look right off your stupid face.” The Engineer
16Bit TF has been running fun TF2 competitions since May 2011. The organisation focuses on cups that run over 2 days. The competition formats range from the pub friendly KritzKast Lo-Fi Longwave (KLOC), the 2 on 2 ‘Frags & Affection Ultiduo’, and the more serious 6 on 6 format. 16Bit aims to provide fun competitions where veterans and newcomers to TF2 can battle it out. 16Bit TF also works with the international TF2 community to ensure that the local players are exposed to input and challenges from abroad.
3. The communities
“I'm drunk... You don't have an excuse" Demoman on life
The TF2 SA community has had its share of drama’s and rage queens. If you roam our servers now, you will find a community that has grown out of its wildly rebellious teenager shoes. The servers are mostly filled with friendly banter, players who are quick to help and slow to overreact. On the local community website, TF2CSA you will find all the guides, assistance and general info you need to be able to play the game. There exist strong bonds between the international TF2 communities, and working on projects together happens on a daily basis. Check out these sites for all things TF2 related.

4. An on-going project
“Mpphhh mphh mphhhh mphhh mhh!” — The Pyro on just about anything
I’ve been playing TF2 since its launch almost 5 years ago, and I am still blown away with the creativity that comes from the developers and the community.
“If you thought the end of the world was the only thing to look forward to in 2012, guess again. There's a ton of TF2 stuff on the horizon, running for their lives just slightly ahead of the Mayan blood tornadoes. The TF2 team is working on something brand new for 2012. We can't tell you what it is, because they won't tell us, but what they WILL say is that it isn't a hat, it isn't a map, and go away. From this we can only conclude that the TF2 team is working on some ungodly hat-map hybrid that you can wear on your head while you run around in it. You heard it here first. Also last, because they just told us it's not that either. But it's really cool.” – TF2 Official Site
5. It’s free to play!
