In an update to an earlier article this morning where we revealed the PS4 initial launch, it's great to see what SA gamers will be able to include a PlayStation 4 in their Christmas stockings thanks to the local distributors. Lets hope we also see some super launch specials that can hopefully address some of the criticism of the launch price that we have seen from some of the community.
Here's the official statement again from Mario Dos Santos, Chief Executive Officer, Ster Kinekor Entertainment.
“South Africa will be releasing the PS4 prior to Christmas, we are planned to go on the 6th of December 2013 due to the logistics of getting the stock to our shores. The price point, although not officially set due to the uncertainty around the Rand exchange rate, is currently planned at an RRP of R 6 299 including VAT and it will not be beyond this for launch. Retail will be communicated to plan at these levels”
We are thrilled that we can play our December holiday away on the shiny new PlayStation 4. There is just one nagging question though, why is it so ridiculously expensive in SA? If you fortunate enough to live overseas, it will set you back $399, 399 euros or 349 British pounds - compared to the possible price of R6 299 local gamers have to pay?
We have requested an interview with Sony, please drop your questions below!
