Everything you get and don't get if you don't buy Destiny 2 Forsaken

Destiny 2 will be undergoing some massive changes in the coming weeks. With the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken, the game will be updated today to boast some well-needed tweaks to the weapon system, inventory and much, much more. But if you are on the fence about the expansion and you are wondering what content you will be getting if you don't want to buy it right now then look no further. We have put together a guide to touch on everything coming to the game in the next few weeks and whether or not you will be getting it if you don't purchase the expansion.

Check out our video guide on everything you get and don't get in Destiny 2 Forsaken

On the 28th of August (today) all players will receive patch 2.0.0 and this will contain many things. First off we have the new weapon slot changes. This will be available for all players to test out and it will stay permanently, so if you’re not buying the Forsaken expansion you will still have this. We are also receiving bulk shader deletion, more vault space, and a milestones and challenges update as well as an overhaul for the director. These are new UI and quality of life changes that you will still receive if you do not buy the expansion. This means you can still play the game as per-normal and benefit from all these changes without throwing any money at anything.

As for the Forsaken expansion, we have the introduction of the all-new hybrid game mode known as Gambit. This is a PvPvE mode where two teams of Guardians battle it out to collect motes and try to defeat their respective boss first. It has a really unique gameplay approach where you fight enemies and other players throughout the experience.

On the 1st of September, there will be a public release and test of Gambit for all Destiny 2 players regardless of if you own the expansions. It will run from 7 PM SA time for a full 24 hours and it is during this time where you will be able to experience the new mode before the expansion's release. Yes, even if you have not ordered the game yet.

Next up we, of course, have the new storyline and the explorable areas that come with it. The Tangled Shore and Dreaming City are the two new areas coming with the expansion, with the Tangled Shore being more of the story area. According to Bungie,  the Dreaming City be the end game area where the new Raid is located. Talking about a raid, of course, if you purchase the new expansion, you will be receiving the new raid which is promised to be bigger and better than any raid we’ve had before.

Players will also be receiving new crucible maps as well as a new mode! We don’t know too much about these except that we have seen one of them in the Bungie crucible live stream. However, I am sure that these new maps won’t disappoint and neither will the new mode.

A whole new mod system for weapons and armour will also be coming in Forsaken. Weapon mods will no longer change the element of a weapon and instead, now they will add an additional benefit, such as reduced recoil, or more damage to major enemies and so much more. Armour mods will act similar to destiny one where you can now stack grenade or melee cool down. Armour will also change drastically with its new perks like being able to reload hand cannons quicker or having less recoil for submachine guns. Players that purchase the Forsaken expansion will have access to all of these features but if you don't you will also have access to a limited supply of them. Anything specific to the expansion when it comes to mods you will be locked out of.

One of my favourite things coming in the expansion has to be the gear collections. A way for players to actively keep track of all their armour and weapons obtained. Players will also be able to pull guns and armour out of this collection, making it so if you’ve ever had a gun and want it again, you can easily pull it out of your collection. The same goes for emblems, sparrows, ornaments and much more. All players will have access to this feature starting from 28 August 2018.

So there you have it. While most of the upcoming content is locked behind the Forsaken purchase, Bungie has made sure that the game's mechanics are widely experienced across the game with or without purchasing the expansion. Will you be jumping into Forsaken or have you Forsaken Destiny 2? Let us know in the comments below.
