Blizzard teases multiple Diablo projects now in development

In June, a job listing for a dungeon artist by Blizzard for an "unannounced project" related to the Diablo franchise all but seemed like an official confirmation that a new Diablo game was in development. We've been waiting for the follow-up announcement, and yesterday, Blizzard finally shared new details that indicate that they are working on not one, but several Diablo projects.

Diablo Associate Community Manager, Brandy Camel shared a few things about what Blizzard has planned for the Diablo franchise, and we couldn't be more excited.

Camel first shared some news about Season 14's "themed experiment." Season 14 celebrated the Season of Greed, and going forward, Blizzard will explore additional themes. Season 14 is expected to end on Sunday, September 16.

But the big news was announced with "The forges here at Blizzard are burning hot and we have multiple Diablo projects in the works." Unfortunately, she didn't share any details and only stated that some projects will take longer to develop than others. Camel also announced that Blizzard will share more details about these projects before the end of 2018. She ended the video with a renewed commitment that "Diablo is, and always will be part of Blizzard's identity."

So, what can these "multiple projects" entail? For us, the biggest announcement will be Diablo IV. It has been more than six years since Diablo III released on PC, and just over a year since the last expansion, Rise of the Necromancer, released on PC and console.

Blizzard has yet to release a game on the Nintendo Switch, and despite Blizzard's lack of confirmation after rumours indicated a Diablo III port, our second guess is that one of the projects are definitely a Switch port. It would be a perfect match. The Switch currently boasts several good hack and slash games (Titan Quest, Bayonetta), but the best one of it all shines in its absence. Since remakes are the thing to do, our third guess is a remake of Diablo I and or II for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

What do the Diablo fans think are the multiple projects?
