Your first look at Red Dead Redemption 2's gameplay is here - Gang camp system, combat and more

Red Dead Redemption 2

We have been waiting a long time for this moment, the moment when we finally get to see Red Dead Redemption 2 in all its gameplay glory. Yesterday Rockstar Games teased the gameplay reveal and today they delivered with a six-minute trailer filled with all sorts of things to see. Rockstar is boasting the most immersive and detailed game they have ever created and after the latest gameplay trailer that is pretty clear.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the first game starring Arthur Morgan, a leader of a group of outlaws following a failed bank robbery. The game is set in 1899 and you will be travelling across America with your gang of outlaws, setting up camps and planning how to take on the latest dastardly deed.

The gameplay trailer showcased the gorgeous world of Red Dead Redemption 2 which includes swamps, deserts, snowy mountains and developing cities. Each location will have a diverse set of predators to avoid, unique people to meet, decisions to make and treasures to find.

Rockstar boasts that you will be able to meet each member of your gang and truly get to know them apart from a few sets of dialogue here and there. You will be able to chat with anyone at any time in the game and they will give you missions to take on and things to keep you busy. You can even choose to take on a mission with a member of your gang. Rockstar says that members will become friendlier the more you do for them but if you kill someone they will always remember, especially if they care about that person.

The camp will act as a hub for staging robberies and looking after you gang. Rockstar says that game will give the player options for non-violent interactions throughout the game. This means that you could be a bad guy but you could also be a decent person and defuse a situation instead of threatening, killing, antagonizing or holding someone up. What you decide will change the outcome of many situations in the game.

The gameplay trailer also showcased your camp where you will be able to set it up while travelling across America. There will also be mini-games to play with your gang members to pass the time. You will also have to look after your horse by grooming it and feeding it and the better your bond, the better your horse will behave. The over stats will improve too which gives you the incentive to pay attention to it.

Last but not least we saw gunplay which is crucial in a game like this and it looked good. Dead Eye is back, the gameplay mechanic that allows you to slow down time and line up shots in order to take out a load of guys before they get the upper hand. Rockstar says that the close-combat system has changed to create a more immersive and intense experience. First fights will take place more often and you will use your environment to help you get your opponent down. We see this in the gameplay trailer where Arthur tackles an enemy and punches him.

It was a small glimpse of gameplay but right now it is better than nothing. The video is titled "Chapter 1: Introduction to Gameplay" so expect Rockstar to drop more of these videos leading up to the 28 October 2018 release date. Red Dead Redemption is set for release on PS4 and Xbox One.
