Rage 2 will deliver on the promise of the original

After a bunch of teases and some leaks, Bethesda finally showed off Rage 2 in the middle of May and it blew our socks off with some crazy gameplay. If you asked me at the beginning of the year which games would be announced by the publisher, a sequel to Rage would have been on the bottom of the list, as the original was quite flawed, had some terrible texture pop-in issues and the open world FPS experience was never realised due to loading screens, not to mention the ending…

Developed by Avalanche Studios in collaboration with the legendary id Software, Rage 2 promises to be a true open world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, do whatever you like and blow things to smithereens. The original had promises too and no matter how good the gameplay of Rage 2 looks, there is always this little bit of doubt creeping in.

That’s why it’s great to hear that id Software has admitted their mistakes with the original and that Rage 2 will finally deliver on the promises of the original. This news comes from the Official PlayStation Magazine, Issue 150, as reported by GamingBolt, where id Software’s Tim Willits talked about the shortcomings of the original and revealed that Rage 2 will have no loading screens. Mr Willits explains:

We had the megatexture technology, and we had the open world, but it was really kind of two different things. It was the wasteland, and you then loaded another level, and then you were in your first person combat.

Well, that’s all gone now. You’re just in the game. Everything is seamless, and together, and you can engage in combat the way you want. The promise of Rage is delivered in Rage 2.” - Source

The failure of the original was, in part, due to technical issues but now, the developers sound confident that this won’t happen in Rage 2. Hopefully, the game will deliver on a true open world experience and maybe even have a better ending this time, because that still haunts me to this day.

Did you play the original Rage and are you excited for the sequel? Let us know in the comment section below.
