PS4 sales hit an estimated 80 million according to a report

PS4 sales.jpg

We already knew the PS4 (PS4 Pro included) was closing in on 80 million sales as the last official word in April this year was that the PS4 has sold 79 million units globally. Now, a report suggests that the PS4 has sold over 80 million units worldwide and it is hard to argue with that, just by how close the PS4 was to the massive milestone over two months ago already.

This would mean that the PS4 global sales are just 7 million behind the PS3 lifetime sales right now and with so many big PS4 exclusives (also known as console sellers) still to come, including the big four we had a closer look at during E3 this year, there is no doubt in my mind that the console can break the 100 million before next-gen.

The report comes from VGChartz, announcing that according to their estimates, the PS4 has now sold 231,545 units in the week ending 16 June 2018, which brings the lifetime sales of the console to 80,151,740. Those are big numbers and VGChartz breaks it down by region, stating that:

Breaking down the sales by region the console has sold an estimated 32,127,272 units in Europe, 24,648,413 units in the US, and 6,787,536 units in Japan. Looking more closely at Europe, it has sold an estimated 5,243,900 units in the UK, 5,618,595 units in Germany, and 4,435,023 units in France.

Then there are also some interesting software sales numbers reported, as six games on the PS4 sold more than 10 million units, while 19 games sold more than 5 million units. 73 games in total sold more than two million units. Somewhat unsurprising is that GTA V is the top-selling PS4 game at retail (because it probably is everywhere) with an estimated 18 million units sold.

Apart from the top spot, there are some interesting sales numbers for PS4 games at retail, with Call of Duty titles following GTA and Star Wars Battlefront raking in some big sales numbers. Take a look at the numbers from the reports below:

  • COD: Black Ops 3 – 15.04 million
  • COD: WWII – 12.82 million
  • FIFA 18 – 11.23 million
  • FIFA 17 – 10.92 million
  • Uncharted 4 – 10.03 million
  • COD: Infinite Warfare – 8.34 million
  • FIFA 16 – 8.21 million
  • Fallout 4 – 8.17 million
  • Star Wars Battlefront – 8.00 million
