PUBG mobile gets an important update

When we last talked about the PlayerUnknown Battleground's mobile version, it was about the bots in the beginning stages that helped players to collect those chicken dinners. It's now almost two months later, and Tencent released a major update (0.5.0)  that brings new weapons, vehicles, tweaks and optimizations, as well as the PC version of the Miramar map to mobile.

"With today’s update, PUBG MOBILE delivers the harrowing, varied terrain of the Miramar battleground to players," announces Tencent in a press release. "Set in a rugged desert with expansive cities perfect for epic battles, Miramar offers players fast-paced combat in the palm of their hands."

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds PC players definitely didn't call Miramar a "fan-favourite" as Tencent states further in the press release, well, at least not when it initially rolled out as the second official map. In January this year, the PUBG development team gave the map an overhaul that changed a lot of the features players complained about, so I hope it's that version we'll now play on mobile.

I gave PUBG mobile ago when it released a few months ago, and it is indeed a lot of fun. Gameplay is extremely smooth, and I was surprised to find that the graphics were a lot better than I thought it would be.

Besides a new map, (and with it new weapons and vehicles), the 33MB update also includes social features to make playing with friends easier. One of the things that were a major problem for me was playing with a team. The new update makes that a lot easier. There is now a "local quick team feature" that requires teammates to enter a 6-digit code to team up with nearby friends. When it comes to improving the overall sound quality, Tencent updated the in-game sounds relating to parachuting, climbing, and all other special effects.
