Pokémon GO celebrates Kanto Week by releasing more Pokémon from the region

Pokemon GO.jpg

We were hoping that the Pokémon GO development team's surprise celebration in honour of the Kanto region included the ton of shinies that were leaked a few days ago, but unfortunately that didn't happen, yet. The Kanto Celebration does include a lot more Pokémon from the region, and Trainers even have the opportunity to earn a gold Kanto medal and complete their Kanto Pokédex. If you want to brush up on which Pokémon are from the Kanto region, then check out our list of the shiny sprites that the recent datamine uncovered as the first bunch are all from the Kanto region.

Back to the event. It kicked off yesterday and will continue until April 17. All Pokémon from the Kanto region have boosted spawn times, with Aerodactyl and Snorlax returning to Raid Battles. All actions are rewarded with double candy, the Pokémon GO Hub reports that this applies to all generations, egg hatches, as well as to Field Research reward encounters.

"...  get out there and make some more discoveries," announces the development team. "If all goes well, you may be able to finish your first Special Research request and encounter Mew!" As you probably know, the current Special Research quest is to find Mew. As part of the quest Trainers also have to catch 100 Pokémon from the Kanto region which awards them a gold Kanto medal. If you're still grinding to catch that 100 Pokémon, then this is your chance.

Lures last for six hours, and Buddy distance have been halved. There are also special boxes up for purchase that contain Raid passes that give Trainers the opportunity to challenge powerful Pokémon from the Kanto region. The Mew reward remains 20 candies, but according to the Pokémon GO Hub you get an additional six candies for catching it.

Lastly, keep in mind that the Kanto Celebration runs over the April Community Day, this means that the above bonuses will apply. During the Community Day eggs will also hatch a quarter of the usual distance, and Trainers will have a much greater chance to catch the featured Pokémon: Mareep. The exclusive move for the day is Dragon Pulse (when Mareep evolves into Ampharos).

Talking about the April Community Day, if you want to hook up with local Trainers, then make sure you like the local Facebook group. There is already a Johannesburg event happening in the Botanical Gardens.
