Microsoft is adding four new titles to the Xbox One X enhanced games library, as well as a brand new feature for the Backward Compatibility service. The new feature is a graphics setting that gives players more control over how they want to experience the game on their Xbox One X.

"Preserving the art form of video games is part of our DNA, which is why Xbox One is the only console designed to play the best games of the past, present and future," explains Lead Program Manager, Bill Stillwell. "We’re excited to continue to deliver on our vision of compatibility and grow our current Backward Compatible library, which includes more than 460 Xbox 360 games, 11 Xbox One X Enhanced Xbox 360 titles, and 13 Original Xbox games."

Xbox One X Enhanced Games

Microsoft added four new titles to the library (Witcher 2, Crackdown, Fable Anniversary, and Forza Horizon), bringing it to a total of 11 games now playable as Xbox One X enhanced.

  1. Assassin’s Creed
  2. Crackdown
  3. Fable Anniversary
  4. Fallout 3
  5. Forza Horizon
  6. Gears of War 3
  7. Halo 3
  8. Mirror’s Edge
  9. Oblivion
  10. Skate 3
  11. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

If you don't already own Forza Horizon, then you won't be able to play it as an Xbox One X enhanced title as Microsoft announced in October 2016 that they're moving the game to an end of life status. So, unless you can get a disc copy somewhere you won't be able to play it.

New Backward Compatibility Feature

"Xbox One X Enhanced" means you can play games at a higher resolution on the Xbox One X, as well as at nine times the original pixel count.  The new feature allows Xbox One X owners the choice between two options on how they want to experience backward compatible titles:

  1. Optimize for graphics
  2. Optimize for performance

The Enhanced Graphics option is the default setting, allowing Xbox One X owners to experience the game in its best possible graphics version. Turning it off reverts the graphics to how it looks on the Xbox 360 or the Xbox One. To access the feature you need to call up the Xbox 360 guide via your controller. Go to "Settings" select "Xbox One X Settings" then choose the option you prefer for that gaming session. Keep in mind that you'll have to restart the game if you change the setting from "Graphics" to "Performance."
