Fortnite Season 3 kicks off today with a new Battle Pass and more

Fortnite’s battle royale mode has taken the world by storm and even passed the 20 million players mark a couple of months ago. The game is growing at a rapid pace and Epic Games is doing a great job of supporting the game and releasing updates. Today’s update (v.3.0.0) marks the end of Season 2 and the beginning of Season 3.

The servers went down at roughly 11 am today and the servers went live again at 13:10 today, so Season 3 has now kicked off. As most of you know, Season 2 had a medieval theme. Season 3 will have a space theme (as you can see in the image above) and when you purchase the Battle Pass you will unlock the Mission Specialist Outfit.

The Battle Pass contains a boatload of some of the best cosmetic items in the game and this season will have 30 more tiers than Season 2. Interestingly enough, Epic Games notes that you will be able to complete the Season 3 Battle Pass in the same amount of time as the Season 2 Battle Pass. You can also compete in weekly challenges and more, so it looks like something players who love cosmetic items will definitely want to pick up.

Fortnite building improvements

Although the full update notes for v.3.0.0 is not available at the time of writing, the developer has explained the building improvements coming with the update, which you can read about below.

Turbo Building - “Turbo Building” allows you to hold down primary fire and continuously place the selected building piece (Toggled in the Game options). Now you can “paint” building pieces into the world quickly. This will be very useful for defensively building walls around you and sprinting up ramps while building them simultaneously.

Automatic Material Swapping - “Auto Change Materials” will switch to another material when your current supply runs dry (this can be toggled in the Game options). In addition to “Turbo Building” this makes the building process fast and simple. It also allows for quick defensive structures from flanking with less input and worry about running out of a particular material.

Build Through Stuff - Sometimes it's frustrating when your placement is blocked unexpectedly and you aren’t sure why.   Currently, smaller objects like furniture and shrubs are destroyed when you build over them, but trees, rocks and vehicles can still get in the way.  We've changed the building system to allow you to place structures right through large objects, meaning you can now build pretty much anywhere at anytime!

NOTE: Player structures must still be supported by the terrain and other buildings. For example: A sky ramp that passes through a tree will still fall if the connection to the terrain or floor is destroyed.

Switching Building Pieces (Battle Royale only, for now) - Switching between building pieces can sometimes feel laggy or unpredictable, especially on controllers.  To improve this, we've changed the network code so cycling through building pieces no longer requires a round trip to Epic's servers. Initially, this improvement will be Battle Royale only, but we’re working to bring it to Save the World!

If you are looking to get into the game’s fantastic Save the World campaign, then you should know that all Founder’s Packs are at 50% off across all platforms. What’s even better is that if you purchase the PS4 version, you can play the PC version as well since it is linked to your Epic Games account.
