Turning Tides - North Sea expansion is now available for all premium pass and Battlefield 1 Revolution owners. Along with the expansion, EA DICE also released a string of tweaks and improvements that affect all Battlefield 1 players.

The changes include weapon balance improvements, a change to vehicle spawns, a change to elite classes, and more Rent-A-Server features. Below is a summary of the changes, as well as a look at Turning Tides - North Sea.

Battlefield 1: Core Changes

The most important change is the weapons re-balance. DICE had to address the issue because of the magnitude of new weapons that released on the battlefield with each expansion. Naturally, it affected the playing field, resulting in many imbalances. The changes address two things for weapons balance:

  1. Combat pacing: Faster time-to-kill (TTK); meaning you'll better manage in tight situations, e.g. when outnumbered.
  2. Loadout and weapons changes: Greater distinction between different weapons, and weapons types

EA DICE described the effect of the changes in an "ideal engagement" for different classes, read it here. What it comes down to, is that you'll feel an overall improved effectiveness of weapons. It will function better in specific situations (close-quarter vs. long-range combat) and the different classes will perform in a more authentic manner against each other.

"Weapon balance tweaks are wide-ranging and complicated," explains Senior Gameplay Designer Alex Sulman. "Therefore, they can initially be very hard to precisely detect. Though you may expect a completely different feel to the game, it’s only with time that these changes will become really apparent. Overall, players should notice a faster TTK, be more capable in out-numbered scenarios, and find greater distinction between different weapons and weapon types."

Combat is your most important expression in Battlefield 1 and making sure that it is at optimal performance is crucial to the game. Other important changes relate to:

  • Vehicle spawns: Relating to positions for boats and planes in Cape Helles
  • Removal of all Elite Classes from War Pigeon Mode
  • More RSP features
  • A ton of gameplay, UI, weapons, maps, general improvements, and modes tweaks

The RSP changes include an increase in the ban list size from 100 to 200. The admin and VIP lists are now set to 50. You can read the detailed update notes here.

Battlefield 1 Turning Tides: North Sea

The North Sea expansion brings the British Empire’s elite naval troops to the battlefield. Two new maps are added, Heligoland Bight and Zeebrugge, as well as the new C-Class Airship.

  • Heligoland Bight: The first naval battle of World War 1; sides are the Royal Marines or the German Empire
  • Zeebrugge: British forces attempt to block the port of Bruges-Zeebrugge, again the German attack
  •  Dreadnought vs. Dreadnought combat on the Heligoland Bight map
  • Fortified Mole on Zeebrugge: Intense infantry battles

Lastly, the new Operation campaign is now available until February 11. Players earn special Battlepacks and other rewards. Remember, Battlefield 1 Operation Campaigns are no longer exclusive to Premium Pass holders.

We would love to hear some feedback from the Battlefield community about the changes. Drop us a comment in the section below.
