Clash Royale gets a much-needed balance update

Begone, foul spirit! That’s what I wanted to scream over and over again when mobile giant Supercell released the latest legendary card for Clash Royale. I am, of course, talking about the Royal Ghost (image above), which has brought myself and many others quite a lot of frustration.

Let’s face it, the Royal Ghost is overpowered. You can see it being used in most of the top decks out there, as it only costs 3 Elixir and packs one strong cleaving punch. But how hard it hits or used to hit, isn’t really the problem. The problem is that it fades too quickly back into invisibility, which means not even area-of-effect spells like a Fireball can stop it.

The developer has noticed this big balance issue and with the latest update, they are nerfing the Royal Ghost in considerable ways. Further, there are also some buffs to cards like the Lava Hound, Night Witch, Lumberjack and more. Then, the recently released Hunter card also gets a slight nerf, while Zappies will now be much more useful.

Check out all the balance changes in the latest Clash Royale update below:

  • Royal Ghost: Damage -6%; Invisibility delay 0.7sec → 1.2 sec; Hit Speed 1.7sec → 1.8sec
  • Zappies: Targets Ground and AirHunter: Range 5 → 4; Bullet spread slightly smaller (projectile range remains at 6.5)
  • Night Witch: Initial Bats spawn quickerBats: Hit Speed 1sec → 1.1sec
  • Lava Hound: Hitpoints +5%Goblin Hut: Spawn Speed 4.9sec → 5sec (one less spawn in total)
  • Mini P.E.K.K.A: Hitpoints +7%
  • Lumberjack: Hitpoints +7%
  • Mortar: Minimum Range 4.5 → 3.5

Even with those significant nerfs, the Royal Ghost should still be a sought-after legendary card for many players. I am still concern about its elixir cost, as I feel he should at least cost 4 instead of 3. Be that as it may, it will be interesting to see how the Royal Ghost performs after all these nerfs and the top players still prefer him after buffs to some other great cards.
