Supernatural thriller Past Cure releases next month on PC and console

Past Cure by Phantom 8 Studio is a stealth action game inspired by Inception, Silent Hill, and the Metal Gear series, and releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 23. It's your next "Independent AAA" title (Hellblade's Ninja Theory first coined the phrase) and promises to keep the player guessing until the end.

“Developed by a team of only eight, we aim to showcase that desire, talent and ambition can help you deliver a title that stands apart from what’s traditionally expected from an Indie studio. PAST CURE is our first title and having secured multiple awards throughout its development, the team is excited to finally have the game out in the wild.”

In Past Cure, you play as Ian, a former elite soldier who is trying to escape the nightmares of his life as a soldier. He has been through a series of experiments that had the unexpected side effect of him acquiring a few unique talents. He can manipulate time and is telekinetic. These powers also have a side effect as it causes Ian's mind to shift between reality and a hallucinogenic state. With the help of his brother, Ian sets out on a journey to discover the truth behind his situation as well as seeking revenge.

"In pursuit of the men behind his imprisonment, Ian soon realizes that his true enemy may be hiding within his own madness," reads the official description. The premise isn't unique, but I am interested to see how Phantom 8 Studio displays Ian's fractured mind - reality and dream world. The devs claim that the game is equal parts horror, thriller, action, and stealth - which promises an exciting gameplay experience.

In the new behind-the-scenes video we meet the Phantom 8 team. Again, like Hellblade, they used motion capture for the action sequences, but I don't expect them to deliver near the same exceptional quality we saw in Hellblade.

Past Cure seems to be a game for those who enjoy story-driven games with a psychological thriller twist. So it's right up my alley. It sounds like there will be a lot of cinematics in the game, so that could be overbearing if the story isn't strong enough.

I hope to play Past Cure, and I advise you to wait for reviews before you purchase the game.
