Destiny 2's HDR support not working for PS4 Pro owners

Destiny 2’s first expansion, Curse of Osiris, was released yesterday and we are all excited to try it out. With the expansion also comes an update (V1.1.0) that was supposed to bring High Dynamic Range (HDR) to PS4 Pro and Xbox One X players, as well as other enhancements to the game.

The update notes clearly state:

  • Upgraded resolution to adaptive 4K with high dynamic range on the PlayStation 4 Pro
  • Upgraded resolution to 4K with high dynamic range on the Xbox One X

Things look all fine and dandy for Xbox One X owners, but for PS4 Pro owners, it is a different story. Multiple players started reporting the issue on the game’s forums, stating that the HDR option is, in fact, not working for them.

When the patch went live, Project Lead at Bungie, Mark Noseworthy, said that HDR support is now live, but since then, has responded to fans on Twitter, admitting that there is indeed an issue with the HDR support for PS4 Pro owners right now.

Top folks are looking into it. I too was excited to fire it up at home tonight on my LG OLED!” - Source

Since then, there has been no new news about resolving the issue, but I guess all we can do now is patiently wait for the developer to fix it. HDR makes a night and day difference to some games and even though Destiny 2 already looks gorgeous, HDR support should make it look even better. I, for one, find it a little odd that this issue occurred, because one would think a patch like this would go through multiple testing phases and that the developer should know that such a big feature isn’t working right after the patch went live, at the latest.

Have you been looking forward to HDR in Destiny 2 and are you playing the Curse of Osiris expansion? Let us know in the comment section below.
