Tom Clancey's The Division will be free to play this coming weekend, and those who already own the game can play the biggest-ever free update from today. The update, codenamed Resistance, adds a whole new area to the map, West Side Pier, with two new game modes: Resistance and Skirmish.

In Resistance, you can team up with three other players in a co-op mission to take on Manhattan’s enemy factions. The longer you and your team survive, the better rewards unlock. Team play and strategy will be key to survival until the end. Skirmish is a player-vs-player mode sees two teams of four players each face off to reach the highest kill count in a limited period.

The Division update 1.8, also adds new gear upgrades, a new social space called Camp Clinton, and "overhauls how players go Rogue in the Dark Zone."

To celebrate the release of Update 1.8, Ubisoft announced a free weekend for The Division on all platforms where you can try out the base game and all the paid DLC:

  • Period: 5-10 December (for existing players to play the DLC)
  • Period: 7-10 December (for newcomers to play the base game and DLC)
  • Underground DLC
  • Survival DLC
  • Last Stand DLC

If you want to purchase The Division after the free trial, then you can grab it at up to 70% discount for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. All progress will carry over.
