PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is coming to mobile devices

China is a massive gaming market so when your game releases there you can take advantage of the population as much as you want and it seems BlueHole are doing just that by releasing a fully-fleshed mobile port of PUBG. Back in September, Tencent, a Shenzen-based internet company purchased a small stake in PUBG developer BlueHole and it seems that they had a very good reason to do it.

Tencent has now announced (you can try read the Mandarin text)  that its "strategic partnership" will also lead to a "genuine mobile port" of the PUBG experience on mobile devices. I just take it that we can probably see it release on iOS and Android in the future but no release date or pricing has been announced yet. Tencent promises that PUBG on mobile will keep the core gameplay of the PC release and deliver a genuine Battle Royale experience from anywhere at anytime on a mobile phone.

Just how authentic this will be is still to be seen, but mobile devices have quite the power these days so it could come out pretty cool if you ask me. Many developers are jumping on the mobile ship and they are already developing for iOS and Android. Nintendo just released their highly anticipated Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, which is the first time we have seen the series move away from Nintendo hardware.

The biggest challenge Tencent has is to make the game work with a touchscreen interface which could be a challenge for them. I don't play many detailed mobile games just because of the touchscreen as it cannot replicate a controller or mouse as much as it tries. Still, we will have to wait and see what comes out of this. Right now it seems that the game is only releasing in China but it could also make its way to the West. The game is apparently already quite far in development so it could release sooner than we think. In the meantime, at least we have the PC version to play and the Xbox One version releasing on 12 December.
