Razer announces its extremely powerful gaming phone

While I do believe that Acer has already attempted this before in the past, Razer seems to be trying to take on the big giants with their latest and greatest mobile phone built for gaming, the Razer Phone. I have to take my hat off to them, it is a powerful device but the concern is still where will it fit into the market if it cannot replace the Switch or PS4, but it is better than the standard mobile device.

In short, the Razer Phone has some powerful internals with all the bells and whistles you would expect to see in a modern phone. It boasts a 5.7-inch 1440p display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Now while the screen is one thing, it has a massive 8GB of RAM, which to compare the iPhone 8 Plus has only 3GB built into it. Only a few devices on the market, including the OnePlus range, have made phones with such high RAM. The 64GB expandable storage will help with games and photos, and the Snapdragon 835 processor will keep the device running in the most powerful state. All this is powered by the biggest battery that has ever seen in a smartphone, a 4,000 mAh pack. Oh, and it also has a dual 12-megapixel camera for wide shots and no headphone jack.

The overall design of the phone is bulky with thick bezel edges, and an overall "Xperia" look and feel to it. But it is the screen that is probably the biggest selling point to the device. With frame rates maxing out at 120HZ, this means ultra-smooth gameplay across every game you play on it, and it is variable so it will adjust depending on the system process at the time. It is a pretty cool hardware feature that I hope becomes a staple in today's phones.

The Razer Phone has some things going for it but then again we will have to see where it manages to fit into the world. It does nothing better than any other Android phone on the market, give or take a few extra kicks of power here and there, but it still does not warrant a $750 purchase. It is going to struggle to find its spot in this saturated market and it is not like there are crappy phones out in 2017. The Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, OnePlus 5, and the iPhone X are all going to be tough competitors.
