Connect event.jpg

There is nothing quite like experiencing an awesome South African gaming, cosplay and fandom convention. In Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas, there aren't many of these types of events in a year, but one event that no one should miss out on is Con.ect, which takes place this weekend. I am from a small town about 40 minutes away from Port Elizabeth, so I will be covering the event this weekend and hanging out with fellow gamers and lovers of all things geeky.

It is, without a doubt, going to be an amazing event and everyone who is able to should join in the fun this weekend. Con.ect will feature a tonne of things to do, including a LAN, Martial Arts displays, a cosplay competition, exhibitions, raffles, prizes, tabletop games, over 50 stalls to get all the awesome things you will ever need and more.

Below, check out all the details on the event and secure your spot, because the organizers are expecting over 2000 attendees!

Con.ect dates, ticket price and location

Con.ect will run from 2 to 3 September from 10:00 AM each day. The event will take place at the Fairview Sports Centre in Willow Road, Overbaakens. You can book your tickets online right now via Webtickets:

  • Saturday Day Pass – R50 Sunday
  • Day Pass – R50
  • Weekend Pass – R80
  • Con.ect Sector 17 eSports LAN - Weekend Pass – R200

For those who don’t book the tickets online, both the Saturday and Sunday day passes will be sold at the door for R80 each. However, the organizers do note that these tickets are limited to 300 per day, so it would, of course, be best to book the tickets online.

What you can expect from Con.ect

The event organizers sent me a press briefing this morning with additional details on what you can expect and it sounds fantastic. Below, you can read more about all the things happening at Con.ect this weekend:

“We are expecting 2000 attendees this year, and the program for the event is going to be jam-packed!  Con.ect has partnered with Sector 17 eSports to bring an exciting gaming and esports dimension to the event.  The Sector 17 eSports LAN will run from 12:00 on Saturday until 12:00 on Sunday, which means that gamers will be battling it out for a full 24 hours!  Tickets for this awesome gaming experience are limited so it is vital to book your spot online as soon as you can.

Various demonstrations will also be taking place at Con.ect this year, including a show by the Shun Wu Tang Martial Arts Academy on Saturday, who will be performing the Chinese Dragon Dance, as well as various other Kung Fu displays. The Port Elizabeth School of Aikido will also be displaying their skills on Saturday and Sunday, and the Parkour Port Elizabeth will be showing off their abilities over the weekend as well.  Roland Gaspar will be the MC and he will also be performing a pole dance, which is sure to be entertaining!  The cosplay masquerade will be taking place on Saturday and the highly competitive cosplay competition will take place on Sunday.  Mr. PE, Jon-Paul Raper, will be a guest judge for this competition and we look forward to his input!

This year, Con.ect will have over 50 stalls from across the country, including Lily the Animatronic Dinosaur from Bayworld, live Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying, Warhammer 4000 tabletop gaming, a cosplay clinic, raffles, prizes and so much more.  Sponsors for this year include Hive, Above and Beyond Productions, The Missing Link, Bargain Books, East Coast Kustoms, Baywest Mall, Rotaract, Cake Serendipity, Exclusive Books and Bayworld."

It sure does sound amazing and I simply can’t wait to attend. As mentioned earlier, I will be covering the event and I hope to see you all there, talk to you about games and have a wonderful time! For those who are attending the LAN, you can check out all the requirements, what you need to bring, rules and much more here.
