Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition announced and VR version release date revealed

Earlier this week, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XV will release on PC early next year (and you'll need quite the beast to play it). The latest announcement from gamescom now also confirms a mobile version which promises "new ways" to experience Eos. The excitement doesn't end there, as Square Enix also announced the release date for the VR version titled Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XV is a big game, and what better way to spend those idle hours while you travel or wait in line. According to the press release, the pocket version is "an all-new adventure" and players will be able to travel through Eos "whenever they want." The mobile version includes all the main characters from the console version, as well as the main story - but with reworked animation and a completely new look. The controls will, of course, also be different and optimized for mobile gaming. Final Fantasy VX Pocket Edition will release over ten episodes, with all ten available for download at launch, and episode one will be completely free.

Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV

The Final Fantasy XV VR version only promises to take players on a fishing expedition - but you won't be catching only fish. "In this brand-new VR experience, players will head out on a fishing expedition with Noctis and his crew across picturesque locations in Eos," announces Square Enix. "The Story Mode places players in the middle of an exhilarating and action-packed showdown with a menace that lurks in the depths, while the Free Fishing Mode allows players to take in the sights, sounds and scenery through a variety of fishing challenges."

Pre-orders are now open, and you can grab it from the local PlayStation Store for R475. If you pre-order Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV you also get a custom theme and Samurai outfit.
