All the incredible games coming your way in August

August Games.jpg

This month, I'll descend into Hades through the lens of mental illness, take up my role as a Guardian and face the Red Legion. I'll also don the Batsuit to meet my old enemy in Gotham, and test my FPS skills in the Lawbreakers arena. If I so choose, I'll hack the mind of the insane as an Observer, or sign up with mercenary Ross for an adventure in search of The Lost Legacy.

If I seek even more action, I'll join the Absolver peacekeepers or the Guardians of the Galaxy. I can also wind down with Everybody's Golf, or catch and train a dino on a tropical island, or immersive myself in a world called "Life Is Strange."

The digital playground awaits, and it has an adventure for everyone.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Release date: 08/08 WW

Platforms: PC & PS4

Genre: Action

Mode: Single-player

Age restriction: TBA

Game info: Hellblade's official description reads, "Set in the Viking age, a broken Celtic warrior embarks on a haunting vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover. Created in collaboration with neuroscientists and people who experience psychosis, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will pull you deep into Senua’s mind.” Hellblade promises an experience like no other – sounds will morph and change interactively and be a tool to guide the player through the world. Talking about the world; you’ll traverse more than one reality depending on where Senua’s madness directs you. The real-time performance capture could show us something we've not yet seen in gaming, VR, and film, and Hellblade aims to offer a radically different world with combat that is simple, lightning-fast, and endlessly nuanced.

Batman: The Enemy Within E1

Release date: 08/08 WW

Platforms: PC, Xbox One & PS4

Genre: Adventure

Mode: Single-player

Age restriction: TBA

Game info: Batman: The Enemy Within is a five-part episodic series, with the first episode titled “The Enigma.” The Riddler returns to Gotham, and “Batman must navigate uneasy alliances while Bruce Wayne undertakes a perilous series of deceptions.” Telltale is a master in storytelling, so players can expect to make some tough choices. So far we know that you’ll have to choose between allies and that Bruce will have to “descend into darkness.” As with all Telltale games, your decisions can carry over to the following episodes, so choose wisely. Telltale’s Crowd Play feature is back, so you can call on friends or family to help make some of those tough decisions. “Beyond that, you can expect trickier puzzles, tougher combat, and plenty of opportunities to make this Batman your own,” announced Telltale.

Release date: 08/08 WW

Platforms: PC & PS4

Genre: First-person shooter

Mode: Multiplayer

Age restriction: 17+ Mature

Rated for: Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, Strong Language

Game info: Maps in LawBreakers have you question your habits and the go to tactics you've adopted over the years. Featuring larger open areas designed with vertical prowess in mind, LawBreakers removes you from the comfort of the narrow hallways and linearity which compliments camping all too well. Forcing you into motion, these larger areas are also affected by gravity anomalies caused by the planet's shattered moon, creating unexpected navigational flexibility, where tracking a target is a lot tougher and gunfights a whole lot more fun. No matter your preference, you’ll find a role that suits you.

Destiny PC Beta

Period: 28 – 31 August

Content: And finally, PC gamers will be able to experience the magic of Destiny. We’ve played the console beta, and couldn’t be more excited about the game. It looked absolutely spectacular on the PlayStation 4 Pro, and we expect it to look even better on PC – even though the recommended specs are lower than expected. I expect PC games will also play the “Homecoming” chapter, as well as experience Inverted Spire Strike, Countdown and Control modes, and the new sub classes; Sentinel Titan, Dawnblade Warlock, Arcstrider Hunter.

Game info: ARK: Survival Evolved finally emerges from its Early Access stage to full game – with very few surprises (bar the ridiculous price increase). It’s one of the most popular survival games and offers everything from taming a dinosaur to having your own pooping system at camp. Talk about a realistic video game … Of course, as these things go, you wake up on an island stark naked and join thousands of other players in a survival of the fittest scenario. You’ll harvest things, craft things, tame and train things, build things, eat things, fight things … you get the picture. It’s the ultimate survival game teeming with life and adventure.

To get your hands on supplies or escape materials you can do "favours" for fellow inmates. Crafting will be required for weapon and tool making, and again, do favours or steal to get your hands on the required materials. Keep in mind, this is a prison, so expect cell shakedowns that could see all your loot confiscated.

Everybody's Golf

Release date: 30/08 WW

Platform: PS4

Genre: Sports

Modes: Single-player & multiplayer

Age restriction: E for Everyone

Rated for: Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes. Online not rated

Game info: Everybody's Golf feels like it has moved into the modern gaming age but has kept it flair intact during the process. Gone are the massive roster of cute characters, and instead you get to create your own the way you want to. Various faces and body types to choose from, and of course the facial enhancements of note. Instead of the typical course selection mode we are so used to in the series, the latest game has kept the entire experience social. From your home hub, you teleport to a course that has a set amount of players roaming around in it playing golf. Your character can now walk around the course and travel to each hole at your will. You can meet up with friends and play together, or just run around.
