Pokémon GO Fest a failure, Niantic decides to release Legendary Pokémon anyway

According to various reports, the Pokémon GO Fest was beset with technical issues like a failure in WiFi coverage and other server issues, which forced Niantic to refund attendees, grant Trainers $100 in-game currency, as well as several freebies like the addiction of Legendary Pokémon, Lugia to their game. Niantic also issued a formal apology, followed by the release of Legendary Pokémon for all Trainers.

"Today at Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, technical issues created problems for a large number of players attending the event. From everyone at Niantic, we apologize to all of the Trainers who came out to Pokémon GO Fest today. Although we were able to solve many of the technical issues, we were not able to offer every attendee a great experience, announced Niantic. "We appreciate the patience of all the Trainers who joined us in Chicago this weekend. We will strive to make sure our experiences are of the highest quality going forward."

The whole first anniversary celebration event wasn't a failure, and a good deal of action did go down, with "incredible in-game bonuses" unlocked by attendees and participants around the world.

The following global rewards are unlocked until Monday, 5:00 P.M. PDT:

  • Double Stardust Double Candy
  • Double XP
  • Increased Pokémon encounters
  • Reduced hatching distance
  • Reduced buddy distance

Niantic also announced the release of the following Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO:

  1. Lugia
  2. Articuno

The above two Pokémon is available right now to catch in Raid battles, with the following two to be released "soon":

  1. Zapdos
  2. Moltres

Lastly, Trainers can expect Legendary Pokémon Eggs appearing at Gyms. Remember - you can now remotely send Berries to Gyms for your Pokémon to keep on protecting your territory.

I wonder if any South African Trainers joined the Challenge Windows, and if they also experienced technical issues. At least we finally have Legendary Pokémon.
