MWEB GameZone Stream: Meet the Valkyries

Stream Day! Tonight we dine in Valhalla!

Well kinda, if by Valhalla we mean a game of League of Legends and by dine we mean get schooled by a team of female, pro-eSports athletes. The ladies in question all belong to the Valkyrie team of the Valhalla Clan - An elite squad of Leaguers who all have experience in the fast paced MOBA - and they'll be teaching us the in's and out's of Leaguing on our stream tonight at 20:00.

Want to know more about who will be joining us? Meet the team below, who happily answered a flurry of questions we threw at them.

Hey guys, Please introduce yourself to the readers.

"Hi we are team Valkyrie! A League of Legends all female team. In the top lane, we have Jade "Jadai" Thomas, in Jungle, Amoné "CheriCheriLady" Bekker. Our Midlane is Leana " The Lady Rage" Jackson, Attack damage carry (ADC) is Angelique "Scarlet" Ramos and finally, our Support is Simone Jandri "BubblezZz" Beck."

When did the clan form?

"Valkyrie started on a cold wet rainy day on 2nd June 2014, when Jade decided she wanted an entire darn female team, a near impossible task at that! But off she went flying her all-female team flag high across the internet socials. Low and behold some fishies bit, and to her surprise, they actually knew how to play League Of Legends.

From that day forth a long, epic journey of bonding as a team commenced. Every lady who has been part of this, even those who have moved on or taken a sabbatical, are still held dear to our hearts. We started making many friends along the way, enjoying every moment, no matter how many obstacles jumped our way."

What is your platform/platforms of choice?

"PC to the max!"

Which games does the clan enjoy?

"Well, we all love League of Legends obviously. But besides that Jadai is a Candy Crush fanatic, LVL OVER 9000! CheriCheriLady enjoys CSGO and Ark Survival Evolved. The Lady Rage plays Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, Ark Survival Evolved, World of Warcraft and Garry's Mod. Scarlet loves some Diablo on the side, and BubblezZz enjoys some CS: GO as well."

How was the clan’s name chosen?

"The girls just came up with it. We all loved it and took it from there. We all want to grace the Gates of Valhalla one day as heroes."

Who are the leaders of the clan and what is the clan’s organisational structure like?

"Clan/Team owner is Jadai. We don't really run the team on an organisational structure, all the ladies are on an even playing ground."

What prompted the Valkyries to start a pro League of Legends team?

"If guys can do it girls can do it too. We wanted to see how far we could take this on a competitive level. We soon got addicted to achieving greatness through wins and we are not about to stop anytime soon."

How many members do you have and who are they (names)?

"We have 5 players for team Valkyrie and Valkyrie is the only team for the Valhalla Clan. The members are Jadai, CheriCheriLady, The Lady Rage, Scarlet and BubblezZz."

How often do you play together as a clan?

"Some of our Ladies are busy with serious practice for the Rush tournament coming up. Other Ladies are busy with the DGL online tournament as well as streaming with Mweb and Geeknode. We are really busy with our current schedules but as soon as it clears up, we will go back to our 4 hours training sessions, 3 days a week."

Do you consider yourselves a competitive clan, or one in it more for fun?

"As a team, we try and find a happy balance, but being in the competitive scene makes it tough to have fun at times, but fortunately, there are loads of funny moments!"

Is attending LANs important to the clan and its members?

"We try to attend as many as we are able to. Generally, if there is an opportunity presents itself we try to make ourselves available for it."

Are you guys actively recruiting for new players? If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide who joins?

"We are looking for players (ladies) in an effort to create another team. We're looking for veteran and new players alike, who we are willing to teach and train to our level, even learn from. We would like to introduce more female gamers to the gaming community."

What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?

"Our aim as the female League Of Legends team of South Africa is to practice, work hard on personal skill and team cohesion. Keeping the harmony strong as we try to enter into as many competitions as possible. Essentially becoming the face of female competitive players."

Which opposing clans do you most respect?

"The Royal Oathbreakers, Goon squad as well as an up and coming team from Forbidden gaming called Prime D."

In regards to professional or competitive gaming, what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?

"I think South Africa has all but one tool. Our internet is not of the best or rather that local servers would definitely improve the scene a lot."

If you guys had a music soundtrack, what would it be?

"Worlds Collide: 2015 World Championship (ft. Nicki Taylor) | Music - League of Legends"

Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you head off?

"Look out for team Valkyrie. Don't be shy, come say Hi to us and follow us on Facebook (Club Valhalla). Look out for our future streams with MWEB and Greek node."

So there you have it guys, an all-female team of epic Leaguers, set to help pave the way for all professional girl-gamers out there! Look out for more from them in the future and definitely check out our Stream tonight at 20:00, where TheStrangerHaz and I will be schooled in how to play League of Legends, by the Valkyries!
