It’s almost that time of the year again when the biggest Dota 2 tournament in the world kicks off. We simply can’t wait for The International 2017’s main event, which runs from 7 to 12 August at the KeyArena in Seattle.

Before the main tournament kicks off, the teams who will be participating must be decided. Six teams have received direct invites into The International 2017 due to their performances since last year’s The International. The direct invites from Valve go to:

The rest of the pro teams and other who want their shot at eSports glory will have to fight their way through the qualifiers. Everyone, including those who don’t own a Battle Pass, will be able to watch these qualifiers and the main event live in the Dota 2 client and on Twitch. Open Qualifiers are being held from 22 to 25 June while Regional Qualifiers run from 26 to 29 June. Below, you can find the invitees to the regional qualifiers (thanks, Wykrhm Reddy‏).

Valve explains how this year’s The International will work:

“Eighteen teams will travel to Seattle this summer to compete for the Aegis of Champions. The field will be comprised of six directly-invited teams and twelve additional teams with invites earned in the Regional Qualifiers.

All eighteen teams will battle in two Round Robin groups from which the bottom team of each group will be eliminated. The remaining sixteen teams will move on to the Double Elimination Main Event at KeyArena.” - Source

There are 49 days to go before The International 2017’s Main Event kicks off and we can’t wait to see which teams will progress through the tournament and who will fall short of greatness. I will, of course, be covering The International again this year, bringing you all the latest news and results and the tournament progresses through the qualifiers all the way up to the grand finals.

What do you think about the six direct invites and which team do you think will lift the Aegis of Champions in August this year? Let us know in the comment section below.
