Pokémon GO live events doesn't feature Legendary Pokémon

Since the release of Pokémon GO, one of the biggest features missing from the game was, of course, the Legendary Pokémon. We are already well into Gen 2 and there are still now sign of Mewtwo and those awesome birds. Developer Niantic Labs has teased and teased Legendary Pokémon and we know the developer is working on it, alongside player battles and more as part of three major updates they plan to release this year.

As most of you know, the Pokémon GO Solstice Celebration kicked off yesterday, but some might not know that Niantic is also celebrating the game’s “one-year anniversary and 750 million global downloads” with the first ever real-world events. These real-world events would be a perfect place to unleash legendary Pokémon, as it would do the game’s original trailer (embedded for reference at the bottom of this article) justice.

Many speculated that these live events would introduce legendaries and were disappointed when the news broke about what the events actually entail. No, there won’t be legendary Pokémon at the real-world events currently planned until the end of July, which is awesome news for South African trainers, as these events only take place overseas.

The announcement reads:

“Trainers, we want to invite you to Pokémon GO Meet & Greet events featuring Pikachu at Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers across Europe from June 17 through July 30. At these events, you’ll be able to take pictures with Pikachu, meet other Trainers, and catch a lot of Pokémon at the many PokéStops, which will have Lure Modules activated all day!”

At the time of writing it is still unknown how and when legendary Pokémon will appear in the wild, but I am extremely happy to know that it won’t be at these live events overseas. It would be terrible that those in South Africa (and many other parts of the world) don’t get a chance to experience the release of legendary Pokémon.

Even though we can’t experience these overseas events and meet Pikachu, you can always join in an awesome South African Pokémon GO event, which is taking place at ICON 2017 this weekend.

When do you think Legendary Pokémon will get unleashed into the wild and how do you hope Niantic does it? Let us know in the comment section below.
