Rockstar announces Red Dead Redemption 2 delay with gorgeous new screenshots

It doesn't come as a big surprise that Rockstar decided to delay Red Dead Redemption 2. The developer announced the delay last night, stating that they needed more time to " deliver the best experience possible." To keep the hype going, Rockstar also released a couple of screenshots about the game.

"This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans."

Red Dead Redemption 2 will now release in Spring 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. "We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready," continued Rockstar. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer. In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Gamers will still get their Wild West fix in 2017 with Far Cry 5, and PC gamers have Wild West Online to look forward to. I am all for delaying a video game to prevent delivering an unfinished, inferior product. As Rockstar mentioned, Red Dead 2 will be their first game for " the latest generation of console hardware," and the stakes are so much higher now that what it was for 2010's Red Dead. Rockstar will also have to optimise RDR2 for the Xbox Scorpio and the PS4 Pro, and I am sure it will be worth the wait. I am also still holding on to my hope that we'll get a PC release not too long after console.

From the screenshots, we can deduct a few clues about Red Dead 2 like dual wielding pistols and first person mode. The previous Red Dead game was third-person only, so it seems after the success of GTAV's first-person view, Rockstar will continue to add it to their upcoming games. In some of the screenshots we see the same cowboy appear a few times, could he be the protagonist?

If these screenshots reveal anything, it's that Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to look spectacular.
