All the amazing new game releases and DLC for May 2017

May 2017 video game releases.jpg

May not only has an exciting lineup of new game releases, but also a good mix of genres. Fighters get a big treat with Injustice 2, then there's Prey, one of 2017's most anticipated releases, puzzle fans get the beautifully crafted RIME, thriller junkies get two exceptional games; Perception (from the ex-BioShock devs), and Get Even. First-person shooter fans can finally play STRAFE, and those who enjoy brutal ARPG's can try their luck in The Surge. May also sees a few Switch releases, DLC's and a wide variety of titles for every gaming platform.

Prey

Release date: 05/05 WW

Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Genre: Action-adventure

Mode: Single-player

Age restriction: M for mature 17+

Rated for: Blood, Language, Use of Alcohol, Violence

Game info: There are many reasons to be excited about Prey, and its unique mimic feature is at the top of that list. It’s the next step in stealth gameplay mechanics as players can morph into a banana, toilet roll, turret gun, into any solid object – and so can your enemies. But I’m getting ahead of myself. “You awaken aboard Talos I, an immense space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032, you find yourself as the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong.”

The intro sounds like many other space games we’ve played before, but it’s in the sum of its parts that Prey aims to offer an incredibly exciting experience. There's exploration and environment, and from what I've seen so far, 2017's Prey will outdo anything we've seen so far in sci-fi shooters. The neo-deco interior of the Talos 1 is in stark contrast with the biotech theme, and to add another layer of exploration; there's "the cold vacuum of space." The player has a multi-layered playground, each with a unique 'feel.'

I think we might find different aliens lurking in particular environments - each resembling some kind of symbiosis. The gameplay experience will definitely be different depending on your location. Space with its zero-gravity vs. inside the space station. I also find it fascinating how Morgan acquires and applies the super powers - you'll need to "harvest" it from the aliens, and inject it into your eyes. Prey will also have some unusual guns alongside the standard shotgun and so on. Lastly, the game will offer some role-playing game elements alongside the action-adventure, as well as multiple endings.

STRAFE

Release date: 09/05 WW

Platforms: PC & PS4

Genre: First-person shooter

Mode: Single-player

Age restriction: TBA

Game info: According to the devs, “STRAFE is the fastest, bloodiest, deadliest, most adjective-abusing, action-packed first-person shooter of 1996! Auto-generating levels of pure mayhem constantly change up the carnage.” The game made a big noise with the release of its first trailer in 2015. Polygon described it as the “best game trailer ever, everyone else can go home.” Impressive trailer aside, STRAFE’s most impressive feature is definitely the procedurally generated levels, which gives players countless gameplay possibilities - therefore, one can never truly master the game. It’s a retro style first-person shooter with a procedurally generated twist, and pays homage to the greatest shooters ever made – Doom and Quake.

When lines that were once clear become murky? Only one thing is certain - power enslaves all. Injustice 2 celebrates some of DC Universe’s most iconic female Super Heroes and Super-Villains. Perception

Genre: Survival horror, Adventure game

Mode: Single-player

Age restriction: TBA

Game info: Perception is a psychological horror game from ex-BioShock devs, and tells the story of a blind girl, Cassie. She uses a cane and, like Daredevil, creates a mental image of her surroundings with a kind of echo-location. "Then there is the mansion of Echo Bluff, which has grown to almost be a character unto itself as it shifts through the different time periods and messes with the player," explained Bill Gardner, head of The Deep End Games. "We’re proud of Perception’s echolocation feature, which allows us to bring an innovative new perspective to a genre we hold near and dear to our hearts."
