What to expect from GeekFest 2017

GeekFest 2017.jpg

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; GeekFest is the most fun the whole family will have in a single day. Mom, dad, and grandma, but unfortunately Spot isn't invited because this year GeekFest is at the prestigious Montecasino. We attended 2015's event - where time stood still, and there was laughter. Then we attended 2016, and much merriment was had by all. I cannot stress it enough; GeekFest is coming to town, and you need to make sure your whole family joins the fun. It's a day where we celebrate everything that makes life wonderful. You don't have to be a geek or a gamer to enjoy the event; it's a fun day for the whole family.

GeekFest 2017 will take place at Montecasino on Saturday, 13 May, and if you feel like having some more fun, then you can attend Sunday as well. One of the biggest attractions at GeekFest is, of course, the Cosplay. Personally, I love the dogs and kids Cosplay the most as they just steal the show with their childlike wonder. Then again, during GeekFest we're all children .... as some in the video below demonstrate.

GeekFest 2017

  • #ESCAPE makes a return, and if you have to try it. Our test subjects reported that it's a "truly remarkable, original experience."
  • Win the Ultimate Geekbox - Stand a chance to win over R20 000 worth of geeky happiness.
  • Robowars is back, undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions at GeekFest.
  • Don't miss the Trading Post where you trade your 'unwanted' geeky stuff for cash.
  • Battle Heritage South Africa offers Western Martial Arts Historical Medieval Battles - or in simple words, it's one helluva fun thing to mock fight. Save for children, and offering more challenges for the experienced 'fighter.;
  • It won't be GeekFest without a Magic The Gathering Tourney.
  • GeekLympics is a new attraction. There are a series of interesting, albeit unusual missions for groups of geeks to complete.
  • There was be a panel with some game developers.

There will also be lots of food stalls, music, and an overwhelming amount of things to browse through and admire. Kids under twelve get free entry, while the rest of us pay R100 for one day, or R150 for both days. It's worth every penny, book your ticket through Quicket today.
