Nintendo Switch owners are in for a treat as the latest Nintendo Direct showed off some pretty epic games and content headed to the console. Right now any new content is good content for Switch owners, as the last few weeks after the console launch has been pretty dry. Still, Nintendo has shown great promise for the platform, as well as continued support for the Nintendo 3DS too, as some games were also announced for the device during the Direct. Here are all the biggest announcements that you should care about.
Arms gets dated and a new character is announced
The upcoming, and probably one of the most anticipated new IPs from Nintendo, Arms, missed the launch window for the console. Saying that however, it might have been a good thing as the game looks better than ever, and the new trailer released during the Direct showed off a brand new character. Minmin the Ramen Bomber is the game's newest fighter. She can dodge and kick in the air, as well as do backflips and counter attack them. Her biggest feature, however, is her ability to turn her arm into a fire-breathing dragon, because why not?
Nintendo also announced a new 2v2 mode that will add another character to each side of the arena, making it even more action-packed. Lastly, the game's release date was revealed. Arms will release on 16 June exclusively for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo also announced that the game will also mark the release of a brand new Neon Yellow Joy-Con, and a battery extender for the controller too.
Splatoon 2 is an awesome game, I played the testfire and loved every moment of it, so the Nintendo Direct's focus on the game was great. Along with a 21 July release date, Nintendo also showed off brand new gameplay from the game, as well as a new co-op mode that will surely bring ink tears to your eyes. The footage started off with this new co-op mode called Salmon Run and saw four players join up to fight off waves of enemies. These enemies then drop Power Eggs. The further you get, the more fierce the waves get, and to make matters worse, the enemies can also paint the ground in green ink, making it hard for you to get around.
You will have to tackle killing them, and at the same time painting the floor with your ink so you will be able to get around. If one of your partners goes down, you can simply shoot them with ink and it will revive them - ah, the power of ink. The mode looks extremely fun, and will add hours of gameplay to the experience, and will be something nice to do when you are not in the PvP mode. Splatoon 2 will release on 21 July 2017 only on the Switch.
This classic collection of games will include titles like Pac_man, Galaga, Splatterhouse, Rolling Thunder, and much more. It will be the ultimate classic arcade collection to own on the Nintendo Switch. That classic Dig-Dug soundtrack just warms me up a little inside. This collection will make its way to Switch later in the year.
Battle Chasers: Nightwar
Based on the Battle Chasers comic book series, this upcoming RPG looks unbelievable. It will feature a classic turn-based combat system, as well as a unique art style that kind of resonates with the Diablo III series. If this trailer is anything to go by, it could be a system seller. The game will release first on the Nintendo Switch later this year.
Sine Mora Ex
Sine Mora is a re-imagining of the classic bullet hell games, and while the game was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, there has been no way to experience this intense flying game on the current gen, until now. Sine Mora Ex will hit the Switch in the next few months and will feature improved visuals, and extra levels.
Monopoly for Switch
Those who love fighting over property with your family (who doesn't?), will be able to play Monopoly on your Switch soon. If there was ever a perfect platform for this game it is the Switch to be honest, as it means you will be able to take your console with you, instead of carting your Monopoly game set around. It is a match made in heaven. The game will release sometime in late 2017.
- Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers releases on 26 May
- PayDay 2 will be releasing on Switch later this year
- Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition coming in 2017
- Fate Extella will land on Switch on 25 July
- Minecraft will release on 11 May with exclusive Mario-themed content
