AMD Ryzen 5 CPU range – Release date and pricing announced

AMD Ryzen 5 CPU release date and pricing.jpg

AMD’s Ryzen 7 range of CPUs was released earlier this month. The South African pricing for Ryzen 7 is between R5,199 to R8,199 for one of the top-end CPUs based on “Zen” Core Architecture. Today, AMD announced that the Ryzen 5 family, a more affordable CPU range, will release on 11 April 2017.

Below, you can find the specifications and pricing for the Ryzen 5 CPU family. Please note that the price in Rand is from a direct Dollar to Rand conversion at the current exchange rate.

AMD Ryzen 5 1400 – $169 (R2157):

  • "Performance Gaming and Processing"
  • 3.2 GHz clock rate with 3.6 GHz Precision Boost
  • 4 cores, 8 threads
  • 8MB L3 cache
  • AMD Wraith Stealth cooler
  • 65 Watt TDP

AMD Ryzen 5 1500X - $189 (R2413):

  • 3.5 GHz clock rate with 3.7 GHz Precision Boost
  • 4 cores, 8 threads
  • 16MB L3 cache
  • Extended Frequency Range (XFR) in the presence of better cooling
  • AMD Wraith Spire cooler

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - $219 (R2795):

  • "Smooth Gaming and Efficient, Advanced Multi-Processing Performance"
  • 3.2 GHz clock rate with 3.6 GHz Precision Boost
  • 6 cores, 12 threads
  • 16MB L3 cache
  • AMD Wraith Spire cooler
  • 65 Watt TDP

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X - $249 (R3178):

  • "Smooth Gaming and Advanced Multi-Processing Performance"
  • 3.6 GHz clock rate with 4.0 GHz Precision Boost
  • 6 cores, 12 threads
  • 16MB L3 cache
  • Extended Frequency Range (XFR) in the presence of better cooling
  • 95 Watt TDP

At the time of writing local pricing and release date is yet to be confirmed. According to the video at the bottom of this article, the Ryzen 5 1600X stacks up well against Intel’s 7600k in Overwatch, but no specific winner was revealed. However, if it is anywhere near the Dollar to Rand conversion, AMD’s Ryzen 5 CPUs should offer great value for money for local gamers.

It is important to note that the Ryzen 7 CPUs are definitely more expensive in South Africa than the Dollar to Rand conversion, for example, the Ryzen 7 1700X costs R6199 locally, but the direct conversion from its Recommended Retail Price (RRP) in Dollar puts the CPUs price at roughly R5100. We will however update you with local pricings as soon as they are announced.
