SA Buyers Guide: Graphics cards to play top games at recommended settings

GTX 10 series.jpg

I can't bring myself to play video games on the minimum PC requirements; especially a game that I've been waiting to play like Mass Effect: Andromeda. Unfortunately, it also means I have to upgrade parts of my PC at least every other year, and this year, it's the graphics card.

The recommended graphics card for Andromeda starts at the GTX 1060 3GB, so the safest option would be to aim for the GTX 1070, or if you have the cash, the new GTX 1080 Ti - unless you want to again buy a new card within the next few years  In case of the latter, make sure you also have a monitor that can run at 4K resolution. I currently have the Radeon 9290 (any takers?), and I am so never going AMD again, but that's something for another discussion.

Please note that prices are reflected as at the time of writing. All graphics cards listed below are VR ready.

It certainly looks like the future of PC gaming is 4K, and that means our favourite hobby is getting ridiculously expensive. On the other hand, imagine traversing the Helius cluster at 4K.
