Nintendo will run an add at this year's Superbowl LI - for the first time. It's one of the most-watched annual events, with airtime costing $5 million for 30 seconds (2016 figures). Last year the Super Bowl attracted over 100 million viewers, so what better time to run an ad or two for your new gaming console.
“The most anticipated video game system and video game of the year will be seen on the biggest stage of the year,” said Nicolas Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Marketing. “Nintendo Switch will change how, when and where people play games. It’s only fitting that we’re changing how, when and where we advertise those games.”
The above video is the extended version of the Super Bowl ad and shows that you can play on the Switch, well, everywhere. We also get another look at some of the single-player and multiplayer games that will launch on the Switch. Games featured in the ad:
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (March 3)
- 1-2-Switch (March 3)
- Just Dance 2017 (March 3)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (April)
- ARMS (TBA)
- Splatoon 2 (TBA)
- Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (TBA)
The Nintendo Switch 30-seconds ad will showcase the mobility of the game, as well as gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The 30-second ad will air during the game’s fourth quarter, with the new song, “Believer,” by Imagine Dragons.
Nintendo Switch will be available at a suggested retail price of $299.99, and R5,599 for South African gamers.
