The next Overwatch event celebrates the Chinese New Year. 2017 is the Year of the Rooster hence the name of the Overwatch event that starts on 24 January. Now, only three days before the event kicks off, four legendary skins from the event have leaked online.

Reddit user hythl0day posted an image which advertises a week-long free event for Chinese players. The image text, as translated in this Reddit thread, reads:“Journey to the West limited skins. Year of the Rooster, free trial: Jan 24th - Jan 31th.”

Journey to the West is one of the four great classic Chinese novels and was written in the 16th century. According to the leaked image, players will be able to earn skins based on the novel for Winston, Roadhog, Zenyatta and Reinhardt during the event. hythl0day lists and describes the four skins.

  • "Zenyatta's Tang Sanzang skin. (Sun Wukong's Buddhism master)
  • Winston's Sun Wukong skin. (The monkey king)
  • Roadhog's Zhu Bajie skin. (The pig monster, another apprentice of Tang Sanzang)
  • Reinhardt's Sha Heshang skin. (The river monster, yet another apprentice of Tang Sanzang)" - Source

At the time of writing there is no official word on how long the event will last. The date of 31 January in the leaked image is very likely just for the free trail and the event could very well continue beyond that. The official Chinese Year of the Rooster event ends on 15 February, so the Overwatch event could last until then. Remember to always take information from a leak with a grain of salt until such time as Blizzard officially reveals the new skins and the end date for the Year of the Rooster event in Overwatch.
