Micro Machines World Series announced

The Micro Machines franchise has been around for over 25 years, with the first game released in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Since the first game, there has been four main entries into the franchise, two spinoffs and an iOS version, the latter releasing in July 2016. However, the last main entry into the franchise, Micro Machines V4, was released almost one decade ago, in June 2006.

Now, developer Codemasters and publisher Deep Silver have announced the return of the legendary franchise, called Micro Machines World Series. Players will once again be able to race in a plethora of miniature vehicles across multiple unique tracks, for example a workbench, pool table, kitchen table and other household environments, wreaking havoc on their opponents.

Jonathan Bunney, Codemaster’s VP of Publishing, talks about the franchise and the new game:

“The original Micro Machines was a breakthrough multiplayer racing game and remains much loved in the gaming community. We saw great success last year with our free-to-play mobile game, but this brand new console title takes the franchise to its greatest levels of multiplayer mayhem and enables you to play with your friends on the same sofa or across the world.” - Source

From the trailer, which you can view below, it looks like Micro Machines World Series retains all the exciting gameplay elements that made the previous games in the franchise so addictive. If I had to describe the franchise in one sentience, it would be “awesome wrapped in win”.

Codemasters explains returning and new features:

“As well as bringing to you the classic game modes like Race and Elimination, Micro Machines World Series will introduce a new style of game play to the series: Battle Mode. The all-new Battle Arenas will allow you to wreak mass destruction on a miniature scale against your friends or the AI. Meanwhile, Team Play lets you work together using your vehicles’ unique skills with modes such as ‘King of the Hill’ or ‘Capture the Flag’!

The game’s been designed around fun and frantic play at every turn, meaning there will never be a dull moment on the racetrack or in the arena. Micro Machines World Series is the ultimate pick-up-and-play experience for players of all ages and abilities, offering intuitive, easy-to-learn controls that make the controller impossible to put down.” - Source

Even though I’m not a big racing game fan, the Micro Machines franchise have brought me so much joy over the years that the release of a new game might just be the best gaming-related news I’ve heard in years; and if you played a Micro Machines game before, you will very likely nod your head in approval of my statement.

Best of all, the wait for a new game in the franchise is almost over, as Micro Machines World Series will release in April 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
