Latest Pokémon GO update datamine reveals what could be coming soon

Pokemon GO new update datamine 3.jpg

The latest Pokémon GO update (version 0.53.1 for Android and 1.23.1 for iOS) doesn’t add new features, Mewtwo or Gen 2 Pokémon. Players who have been waiting for any other the big new additions will of course be disappointed in the update and wonder when developer Niantic Labs will release new features or Pokémon into the wild.

The update notes read:

  • “Updated Apple Watch to display Eggs obtained from PokéStops
  • Changed distance tracking to better account for GPS drift
  • Minor text fixes.” - Source

That’s it, nothing else, except if you look under the hood...The Silph Road has datamined the Android version’s APK file and found that there is a lot more going on with the latest update than the three lines above.

The code found points towards Evolution items, used to evolve certain types of Pokémon:

But that’s not all, 38 new moves in the Quick Moves and Charge Moves category has been added to the game’s code, which points towards the addition of Gen 2 Pokémon. The Silph Road states: “Not only have the move names appeared, but graphic assets have also appeared. We believe at least several of these are ready to be deployed via a server-side change.” - Source

There are also some additional Avatar Customization in the code, pointing towards Belt, Glasses and Necklace. Further, the update brings more lines of code with the “Shiny” reference for Pokémon and Pokémon genders.

At the time of writing there is no indication when Evolution items and Gen 2 Pokémon will be released, but it is definitely a good sign that the new moves and Evolution items are now in the game’s code. The last time a new move was spotted in the code was with Ditto’s Transform; and two weeks later, Ditto was released into the wild.

What do you think about the datamined information and which is the Gen 2 Pokémon you would love to catch the most when they are released? Let us know in the comment section below.
