SA has a new eSports powerhouse: Kwesé Sports kicks off R100 000 tournament

"Who is this Kwesé Sports that can kick off a tournament with a 100K cash prize and then some?" I hear you ask. It's the "monster" that swallowed our Brad Kirby. As he promised in his swan song, he was leaving us to "change the game, the world and specifically, Africa." Well played sir, well played.

"To say that we are excited about this new tournament would be a massive understatement! It is a perfect way to close off a big 2016 for SA gaming and we are going to make it an even bigger tournament series in 2017," says Games Manager, Brad Kirbey. "While this may be the first time that most gamers will be hearing about Kwese, it will most certainly not be the last with some more major announcements happening soon. Watch this space..."

The Kwesé Sports FIFA 17 tournament, or ACE as they call it, marks the beginning of a new era for African eSports. Notice, not South African, but Africa, as Kwesé is part of Econet - that is one of the biggest and most important investors in Africa. Econet's mantra is "Inspired to change your world" and if ACE is anything to go by, then African is on the cusp of the biggest change in eSports to date.

“We are committed to constantly engaging our audience in new and creative ways”, said Joseph Hundah, CEO Econet Media. “The gaming trend and community has grown dramatically over the past few years in South Africa, particularly eSports, Kwese acknowledge that gaming is now an official sport and we want to be there to support gamers across the African continent.

It’s an exciting time in gaming and with the launch of the new FIFA 17, we saw an opportunity to connect our audience with their favorite sports”.
