Sony’s spectacular E3 showing – All the highlights

Sony E3 2016 highlights.jpg

Although Sony’s E3 press conference didn’t feature a new console like the Xbox camp, it did include a ton of spectacular game announcements, release dates and Virtual Reality (VR). For those who couldn’t watch last night, here are all the highlights from the show in one place for your convenience, starting with PlayStation VR (PSVR).

PlayStation VR announcement

Sony has announced that PlayStation VR will be “hitting retail” on 13 October 2016. Their VR headset will be priced at $399. Sony also showed off a VR Gun Controller with 1-to-1 tracking, which Co-Founder Seth Luisi explains: "How you hold and where you point the controller are directly matched in the game. This allows you to do things in Farpoint that just are not possible in a standard FPS game."

Sony also showed off a bunch of games at the press conference that will be either PlayStation VR exclusive or compatible with the device. Further, the company mentioned that there will be 50 games available for PSVR by the end of this year. Some of the PSVR offerings include Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, Batman Arkham VR, Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy XV and a PSVR exclusive Farpoint.

Watch all the biggest game announcements and trailers from Sony’s E3 2016 press conference below.

“Developed exclusively for play in PlayStation VR, Farpoint is an unnerving space adventure set on a hostile alien world. After crash landing you have to fight to survive as you explore and uncover the planet’s secrets. Your only hope of escape is to keep moving and discover the fate of your team.”

Here They Lie

“Here They Lie is a dark psychological horror experience that transports you to a terrifying, surreal world inhabited by strange and malevolent creatures. Unimaginable horrors lurk around every corner, just out of sight, haunting and infecting your mind. Dare yourself to go deeper down the rabbit hole and confront the meaning of your existence. With a focus on narrative, and the experience of dread, Here They Lie is not your typical survival horror game.”

Here They Lie will launch Fall 2016 for PlayStation VR and PlayStation 4.

Very little is known about Insomniac Games’ new Spider-Man game except that it is a PS4 exclusive and is developed by Insomniac Games, but hopefully he does whatever a spider does.

God of War

At Sony’s E3 2016 press conference early this morning, the new God of War was finally unveiled. The game isn’t called God of War 4, but simply God of War. However, it isn’t just a reboot of the original game either. The idea behind the new God of War for the creative director of Sony Santa Monica Studios, Cory Barlog, is: “Everything, everywhere changes”. Detroit: Become Human

“Detroit is about emotions, about dilemmas and making difficult decisions. Detroit is not just the story of androids becoming aware of themselves and their fight to be free, it is about a story that resonates at many levels in our world, about being free, about becoming who you are.”

The Last Guardian

New footage of the long-awaited PS4 exclusive finally shows the game’s release date of 25 October 2016.

Horizon Zero Dawn

“In this demo, we follow Aloy as she journeys beyond the walls of her village to defeat a ‘demon’ which is terrorizing locals and breeding fear throughout the valley. Aloy will have to use every ounce of her knowledge, intelligence and agility to survive this encounter.” Read about the Special Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses here

Days Gone

“Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic. Play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live.

At its core, Days Gone is about survivors and what makes them human: desperation, loss, madness, betrayal, friendship, brotherhood, regret, love – and hope. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy they find a reason to live. Hope never dies.”

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

“Horror fans all have one thing in common: We live to be terrified. Capcom has heard fans’ masochistic cries for a Resident Evil game far more terrifying than anything that has come before it. Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the harrowing homecoming you’ve been waiting for.” The game will release on 24 January 2017 for the PS4 and is PSVR compatible.

Skylanders Imaginators: Crashing Into Skylands

“Welcome back to Wumpa Island! It’s been 20 years since Crash Bandicoot first invaded our hearts and consoles. And Activision, Toys For Bob, and Vicarious Visions are beyond excited to bring him back as a guest star in Skylanders Imaginators for his 20th anniversary celebration.”

Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima's first game after leaving Konami revealed. Feast your eyes on Death Stranding, starring Walking Dead's Norman Reedus.
