Another opportunity for SA CS: GO with the E-Frag World Championships

E-Frag.net has announced the 2016 World Championships, adding yet another opportunity for local Counter-Strike players and teams to compete on an international platform. The E-Frag.net tournament joins an already packed CS: GO season in South Africa with the Predator MGMS, ESEA, ESWC, Orena’s ladder tournaments, IeSf World Championships and the Telkom DGL – with more most likely to be revealed soon.

The E-Frag.net tournament will see qualifiers start in June with 93 teams (and over 1,000 players) from Europe, South America, North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania participating for the top eight slots at a LAN final in Belgrade, Serbia in October.

Up for grabs at the LAN event is a prize pool of $100,000 and will see the teams playing from 12 to 16 October, with matches being streamed live Azubu.tv.

Previous winners of the E-Frag.net tournaments are Team Denmark in 2013 and Team France in 2014 and 2015. In 2015 South Africa was represented by an MSSA selected team for the African qualifying leg against Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Libya, but the team failed to win against any of their opponents which saw Tunisia eventually head to the LAN finals.

It is unclear whether this year’s team from South Africa will be an MSSA team, or chosen via another qualifying system, but Bravado Gaming’s Andreas ‘cent’ Hadjipaschali is listed on the E-Frag.net site for South Africa, suggesting that this year’s team may be a very different one to the 2015 team that represented the country’s Counter-Strike community.

I did reach out to the Bravado owner for clarity, but at the time of writing, he had not yet replied. I will update the article as soon as more information becomes available.
