Last night DICE and EA revealed Battlefield 1, and it's the game first-person shooter fans have been asking for, for years. Activision chose to continue the pursuit of futuristic warfare, and now they'll pay the price as the masses flock to Battlefield's World War I. On 21 October 2016 the Dawn of War begins.

We've got everything you need to know about Battlefield 1:

  • Breakdown of the Battlefield 1 gameplay trailer with Open World Games & Jack Frags
  • Screenshots and setting
  • Editions and early access with SA pricing
  • Battlefield 1 beta
  • Free content releasing for Battlefield 4 and Hardline

Battlefield 1: Gameplay, Single-Player & Multiplayer Features

Open World Games dissected the Battlefiled 1 gameplay trailer, here's what they uncovered, plus a few of our own observations.

Battlefield 1: Multiplayer

  • Multiplayer will have the standard 64-player, big-scaled maps
  • Land, see and air combat: Planes, tanks, vehicles and horses
  • Combat units: Aerial, infantry, cavalry and artillery. Trains also seen in the video
  • Weapons: Swords, flamethrowers, poisoned gas, guns, bludgeon
  • Close quarters combat: Will play a bigger role than previous Battlfield games.
  • Vehicles: Heavy tanks, lighter tanks, bombers, fighter planes, battleships - and even Zeppelins
  • Enhanced weapons customization
  • Four Classes: Medic, assault, support and scout
  • Dedicated vehicular classes including tank officer and pilot

Battlefield 1: Single-player

  • More open-ended than previous Battlefield games
  • Protagonist will be a soldier from the Harlem Hellfighter Infantry Regiment
  • They were the best known African American unit of World War I
  • Managed by Black elitist soldiers
  • Infantry unit
  • According to history they "spent more time in combat than any other American unit."
  • After World War I they returned home to face racism and segregation from the people they protected

Battlefield 1 by Jack Frags

Jack Frags got some hands on time with Battlefield that he'll share later, but here's my summary from his trailer breakdown.

  • Graphics looks amazing - everything that made Battlefront look so good is in Battlefield 1
  • Maps: Italy's alps, Arabian desert, France and lots more
  • Dog-fighting, trench-fighting, insane combat
  • Scout: Sniper rifle
  • Medic: Semi-auto's
  • Assault: SMG's
  • Support: LMG's
  • A strong cinematic feel and look to explosions and combat
  • Very detailed destruction's, much more than previous Battlefield games
  • No "lock ons" in combat because of the World War I setting
  • Battlefield 1 will therefore be more skill based
  • Weapons: Pistols, rifles, semi-automatic rifles, dynamite, variety of melee weapons (with different stats)
  • A bayonet charge
  • There will be weapons customization but limited to WWI period
  • Aerial combat includes by planes
  • Single-player is focused around "Battlefield moments."
  • It will be centered around the destiny of several individuals
  • This is a Battlefield that we've never seen or played

“The game will deliver a fresh experience full of what makes Battlefield great, with a multiplayer sandbox, immersion, epic scale, authenticity, team play and an ever-changing world full of unexpected Battlefield moments,“  said Aleksander Grøndal, Senior Producer, DICE.

“We’re inviting players on an epic journey across a war-torn world, taking them to the Great War and providing something both varied and unique in Battlefield 1.”
