Black Ops 3 first week retail sales compared to previous call of Duty titles

Black Ops 3.jpg

According to VGCChartz, Call of Duty: Black Ops III sold 6,654,935 units in its first week, placing it at number seven when compared to the previous Call of Duty titles. Even the terrible Call of Duty: Ghosts performed better as it sold 8.11 million units during its first week of release. Surely the reason for Black Ops 3's poor retail sales is an indication of the move from physical sales to digital purchases and not of the quality of the game.

  5. Call of Duty: Ghosts - 8.11m
  6. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - 6.83m
  7. Call of Duty: Black Ops III - 6.65m
  8. Call of Duty: World at War - 2.11m

How does the overall Black Ops III sales income look?

Polygon reported earlier this month that according to Activision, Black Ops III outperformed Advanced Warfare and Ghosts in overall sales by raking in over $550 million during its first 72 hours. I find that statement confusing, as Black Ops III brought in over $500 million in its first 24 hours and Ghosts, which many consider one of the worst Call of Duty games, collected over $1 billion on release day.

The only thing that is very clear is that Call of Duty brings in a lot of money for Activision.
