MWEB launches new uncapped ADSL products to get your game on

Over the last few months, we've been talking about understanding lag, as well as how to reduce lag when playing online games. We've also elaborated on the fact that MWEB is South Africa's biggest game server host and how we prioritize gaming traffic. In our latest discussion about gaming in South Africa, MWEB Digital and Gaming manager, Desmond Kurz, touched on the subject of what kind of ADSL connection gamers need.

All that advice and talk would be meaningless if we didn't also back it up with giving gamers the infrastructure to play online games.

MWEB's new, cost-effective uncapped ADSL products

“Our new Uncapped ADSL products form part of a series of changes we are making as Telkom introduced and reintroduced new line speeds back into the market to give users more options and the opportunity to access the Internet via ADSL,” says Carolyn Holgate, General Manager of Product, Sales and Marketing at MWEB.

Let's backtrack a bit and talk about online gaming with an ADSL account.

MWEB GameZone's Product Manager, Brad "shotgunschmoe" Kirby: "I recommend you read ADSL for Gamers if you want a general overview of the most important components for online gaming. For the purposes of this article, I want to highlight that for online gaming we highly recommend you don't get anything under a 2MB uncapped package. As gaming traffic is generally very small in nature, so in theory these low throughput lines will work for most of your gaming only traffic. However, we have started to see certain titles netcode flat-line at over 2Mbps using in-game traffic only (no updates and patch downloads etc.) and by the very "update heavy" nature of this beast requiring constant downloads, it is the only real reason that as a gamer, these entry level packages might frustrate you a little... So with that in mind, here are two other ADSL packages that could be ideal for online gaming."

Choose the package that will give you the best possible latency and line stability for gaming.

For savvy gamers - Build your ADSL package

Gamers are generally more tech and Internet savvy than most people because we spend so much of our time online, and we're always looking for ways to improve our online gaming experience. The "Build your ADSL package" is, therefore, ideal for gamers, and MWEB made the process simple and easy.

Build your ADSL package consists of three parts:

  1. Choose your data
  2. Choose your line option
  3. Select your line speed

You just select the options you prefer, and MWEB automatically works out the best deal. Why don't you try it out now?

Let's take a look at the rest of MWEB's new, cost-effective Uncapped ADSL products. Keep in mind that MWEB is also running a promotion from 1 September to 30 November 2015.

  • Sign up for an ADSL product for 12 months and get the first three months free.
  • Offer excludes 1, 2 and 5GB products and line rental.
  • Offers are on a month-to-month basis, no contract required

Here's to many hours of affordable, stable and great gaming experiences on MWEB.
