MGMS Advanced Warfare Qualifier 2: Meet the Teams

MGMS Teams.jpg

The MWEB GameZone Master Series (MGMS) second Qualifier for Call of Duty:Advanced Warfare officially kicks off today. The participating teams will be competing for their share of R10 000 in prize money as well as the opportunity to grab one of the two remaining spots in the Grand Final.

In the first MGMS qualifier, we saw Astra Infinite and Ventus Xero grab the first and second spot respectively, which earned them an invite to the MGMS Grand Final. The Grand Finals will see the top two teams from each tournament battle for R22 000 in cash and glory at the MWEB offices in Cape Town on the 3rd of October.

The tournament is set to be explosive from the get-go as some of South Africa’s best teams have entered the battle. eN F34R and Insane Gaming spoke to us during the registration period, where they both stated that they are going for the number one position. They will, however, have a tough task ahead of them as the tournament is filled with some of the best players that South Africa has to offer.

Let’s take a look at some of the teams who entered the MGMS second qualifier for Advanced Warfare:

ViNCO Gaming

ViNCO Gaming has undergone a massive roster change after losing half their squad to rival teams. Now, with a brand new captain at the helm, ViNCO Gaming finally believe that they have what it takes to rise up to the challenge in the second MGMS qualifier. Here is what their brand new captain, Phenom, had to say:

“As a team our goal is to qualify for the final event. First place would be even better but the main focus is to qualify. We have our work cut out for us as we don’t have as much time to play as we would like. That being said, we won’t let it stop us from pushing for our goals. We want to prove that, even though ViNCO took a massive hit when most of the roster departed, we have not given up and have improved since then”

inX Gaming

inX Gaming is a crew of individuals that have been working hard to promote themselves as a professional eSports organization. At EGE, earlier this year, they displayed exactly that. Showing up in a new kit and with a brand new attitude, they fought their way through their opposition to earn a respectable finish.

inX Gaming is rated as one of the best teams in South Africa and were mentioned by name to be one of the top contenders by their opposition, eN F34R.

Wayne Moller of inX Gaming has this to say going into the second qualifier:

"Going into the 2nd MGMS Qualifier we were feeling really positive! But unfortunately we lost two really good CoD players. inX Gaming is going through a hard time finding a good 4th. Nevertheless we won't stop giving it our ALL and will not give up. inX Gaming is here to stay and people will see us for a long time in the CoD community"

Astra Nation

The Astra Nation (AN) squad are going into the tournament as one of the favourite teams to take the title. AN’s line-up, on paper, is extremely impressive as they have formed themselves with a talented list of skilled and experienced individuals.

The squad, however, haven’t tested themselves in tournament play, where teamwork is key. It will be interesting to see if this squad gels as a unit or collapses under the pressure during the second MGMS qualifier.

The team’s Kyle Hills had this to say about Astra Nation’s plans for the qualifier:

"Our goal, heading into the second MGMS qualifier is simple: Astra Nation as a team want to win the tournament. Our lowest placing that we will be happy with is second."

Intel Red

The Intel Red squad are one of the underdog teams of the tournament. The squad managed to earn themselves a top six placing in the MGMS first qualifier, despite having to forfeit their last game. Now the squad have returned to show that they once again can stand side to side with the best teams in SA. Here is what their team captain, Intel Callow had to say:

“Our goal in the second MGMS qualifier is to come in the top two and qualify for the LAN. We know the competition is rough but we aim to set high standards for ourselves in order to improve. We are forward to a long and successful road ahead.”
