Update - PlayStation

A couple of new arrivals for you to spend (and save) money on.

Week four of the PlayStation Store 'Summer of Digital' has seen a number of titles added featuring discounts of up to 70% off. The special runs until 29 July and features Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty as a cross-buy title for R179.40 (with an additional 20% off for PS Plus members), Contrast on PS4 for R109 (additional PS Plus discount applies too) and more. The full list can be found here, but may we suggest that if you're in the market to buy Journey, you do so now while it is discounted by 20% for PS Plus members. If you need convincing to invest in the game, maybe our review of the game will prove useful.

If you're keen to bag yourself a console skin at a discounted rate then CC Entertainment has you covered. Until the end of the month, all their console skins will cost you only R140, so go on and spoil yourself and your console today.

Update - Xbox One goes on sale

Starting today, you can grab an Xbox One for R5 499, that 's R800 less than the recommended retail price.

“Thursday, 23 July 2015 is D-day. The recommended price on the Xbox One 500G console will drop by R800. Buying the console now also brings with it the promise of access to the world’s best games and the best online gaming experience,” says Ian Hepplewhite, the CEO at Prima Interactive.

Here's the list of South African retailers you can purchase the R5 499 Xbox One from:

See here for more details on the Xbox One sale.

While not strictly a saving, steal or deal, Raru has opened a new Merch department which sells, well, various gaming (and other) merchandise. There is a Modern Warfare 3 t-shirt available for only R97, while a Gears of War 3 t-shirt will set you back a slightly more eye-watering R301. There’s plenty to make your geek heart smile, so go and indulge yourself today.

There’s a chance to win an “an amazing amiibo hamper” from now until 31 August. If you’re keen to know more, you can head here.

There’s still a Cooler Master bundle up for grabs until 26 July. You will need to participate in a survey to stand in line for the prize, or if you’re an impatient sort, just spoil yourself by buying something in the Cooler Master promotion.

Some current sales on hardware products include:

There’s no gaming sale on at the moment, but we would like to direct you to the current best available pre-order price for Call of Duty Black Ops 3, which is via Raru currently. The previous generation console versions are available for R687, while the current generation console version sell for R794. For R598, you can secure a PC version, while the Hardened Edition for PS4 and Xbox One will cost you R1,189.

You will find that the ongoing gaming promotion has some new additions, while some items have now been removed, so if you missed our feature last week, you may have missed out on something you really, really wanted. Thankfully, the 500GB PS4 (standalone) is still discounted and you can pick one up for R5,876. Driveclub is available for 50% less than the regular selling price, so if you’re looking for the PS4’s best racing title, then it can be yours for only R399.

The ‘Hot Right Now’ sale has a few PC products discounted, as well as gaming items. The real winner in the gaming list is an Xbox One standalone that can be yours for just R5,386.

There are still a number of console bundles discounted until 27. For R6,299, you can pick up an Xbox One bundle with either The Witcher 3 or Halo: The Master Chief Collection. If you’re in the market for a PS4, then the Batman PS4 bundle might be the one for you, and you can get the Batman PS4, Batman Arkham Knight, Injustice: Gods Among Us and a 90 day PSN subscription for R6,799. These two specials, along with a few others can be found in their current catalogue.

On the Makro site itself are two more PS4 console specials. The best value (and possibly the best value PS4 anywhere this week) is the God of War bundle. For R5,999 you will get a white PS4, the remastered version of God of War 3 and a 90 day PS Plus subscription. The other special features the PS4 console, an extra controller, Mortal Kombat X, Injustice: Gods Among Us and a tattoo sleeve for R7,299.

On AWX they have a few titles across various platforms listed under their ‘On Sale’ tab. The best deal of the bunch remains the Mass Effect Trilogy for Xbox 360 we mentioned last week for R195. AWX also has the God of War 3 PlayStation 4 available for R5,999, but their bundle appears to only offer the console and game.

PlayStation Store

The ‘Summer of Digital’ sale is still on the go and this week there are plenty of great titles available at discounts ranging 25% to 70% off. Some of the titles on sale include Broken Age, OlliOlli 2, Transistor, Dust: An Elysium Tail and more.

Additional discounts for PlayStation Plus subscribers can be found here, while the Deal of the Week features Need for Speed Rivals

If game DLC is more your thing, a number of DLC items remain discounted, and almost all Call of Duty content (games and DLC) have been discounted by up to 70%.

Xbox Live

The weekly Deals with Gold and Spotlight sale on Xbox Live sees The Elder Scrolls Online discounted by 33%, while there are discounts on other Xbox One titles like Dark Souls II: Scholars of the First Sin, a Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2 bundle, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (now R126.75) and more. On the Xbox 360, the options are slighter based on older titles with Rockstar Games' titles being the ones slashed in price. There is 75% off Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, Bully, Red Dead Redemption and Midnight Club: L.A. That means, if you have never played Red Dead Redemption (and we ask you why you haven't?) you can pick it up for only R74.75 if you are a Gold subscriber. For the full list of discounted items available until 27 July, head here.

Currently on Xbox Live, Gold subscribers can still pick up Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox One), So Many Me (Xbox One) and Gears of War 3 (Xbox 360) for free.

  • Discounts on Gamers Gate include The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (R84) and Lost Planet 3 (R78), along with Tembo the Badass Elephant on pre-order for R167. There’s a few more titles discounted, and the full list can be here.

  • ZA Gamer has a PlayStation 4 console available for R5,900, as well as a number of games for various platforms available at discounted prices. There is also the Roccat Kone Pure mouse available for R1,430, as well as more items here.

  • On AperturePC you can pick up a handful of components and peripherals on sale. The best looking deal is on the Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Graphics Card, which is discounted by over R1,000 to R8,299. Other items can be found here.
  • There are a host of specials on Evetech at the moment. For gamers looking for 144Hz monitors, there are LG and Asus variants for sale. There is also an SSD sale as well as a number of PC rigs, components and more.
  • Landmark Computers have a variety of items in their monthly special section. There are memory modules, CPUs, monitors, hard drives, graphics cards, laptops and more discounted. The deal of the bunch is the Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 Gaming Keyboard which is usually R2,126.00 but is currently marked down to R1,219.00.
  • Rebel Tech has an array of PC components on promotion, including graphics cards and memory, but it is the LG 24” 144Hz monitor that really catches the eye. It can be yours for R4,299 – R852 less than usual.
  • There is always something to buy on Wootware, and this week is no exception. There are discounts on motherboards, CPUs, memory, GPUs and more.

And that’s it for another week. Let us know if you picked something up, or even if we missed something.
