Here’s something to make you jealous on a Wednesday morning:
Professional League of Legends (LoL) player, Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez has revealed that he earns nearly $1 000 000 (one million) per a year playing the game he loves the most.
In a recent interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC, Rodriguez discussed his role as the captain of professional gaming team Schroet Kommando (SK) Gaming, where he humbly stated the following regarding his annual earnings:
“I do not know if I should say. Well, do me a favor and put it in a way that does not seem arrogant, because really I'm not... because only the merchandising income is half a million euros a year easy. That's like 70 percent of the total, since I have to add my salary I earn in tournaments, the streaming of my games and what I get from personal sponsors. In total I earn between €600,000 and €700,000 annually. But now is the time to save and help the family."
The amount of money he’s rolling with is nothing shabby considering that SK Gaming only placed seventh at the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Europe Summer Season and didn’t even progress to the world segment of the tournament.
This makes me wonder how South African League of Legends players feel about the whole professional gaming story. We have a lot of decent players here and although the community is smaller than that of Dota 2, they do deserve recognition for their skills. How do you think South African LoL players would perform on the world stage?
