Mayhem! Anarchy! Chaos! Destruction! Annihilation! We ‘re really feeling our work is about done here. However, it seems Battlefield 3 clan Masters of Mayhem are pretty decent at bringing their own brand of mayhem too.
Their answers are pretty organised though…
The clan name – Masters of Mayhem – influenced by the Norwegian Black Metal band or Tommy Lee’s Masters of Mayhem? Or simply an indication of the anarchy you bring to the battlefield?
‘[MoM] Masters of Mayhem’ – what a name isn’t it? At first the founders wanted to name the clan [SDM] Skreeming Death Mechanics, but then they thought using an anagram would give the clan name a sense of humour and wittiness not often seen. The Mayhem follows our members around on the Battlefield though. We wanted to portray our play style through the clan name from the beginning. When anarchy hits we are in the midst of the chaos, punching holes in our enemy defences and cutting them down before the smoke clears. We were and still are some of the craziest misfits you are likely to encounter online. A more perfect name could not have been chosen for our clan, and judging by the amount of ‘I love MoM’ tattoos being sported… our clan and name is a worldwide hit!
When did MoM form? How many members were there at the birth?
MoM was officially founded on 28 March 2011. Three guys, who were still playing for another clan at the time, decided that it was time to start the Mayhem. And so the journey of building up friendships, alliances and good times began. After two years of existence, Afrikaans and English brothers/sisters in arms unite under a single destructive banner.
Did you start on a specific platform and due to a specific game?
It might interest you to know that we got established on Homefront, but MoM was meant to be a PS Battlefield clan. Our legacy started on Battlefield Bad Company 2, where we reined Mayhem in Vietnam on our competing clans and even on our own team mates at times… the more you were team killed, the more you were loved. You will often hear some of the MoM veterans still reminiscing over the good old Vietnam days. We all moved over to Battlefield 3 upon its release and will surely move over to Battlefield 4 next. And so MoM is progressing with the times, building new strategies and memories, whilst enjoying every second thereof.
How many members are you currently? Wanna waste time and list them maybe? As many personal details as possible please. We’re not stalkers. Or planning to steal your identities…
We are very proud to house 40 members under the MoM banner. So seeing as our number of clan members is quite extensive, the much awaited zombie apocalypse might even break out before I am done with the list but here goes:
Miggs7170; big_beh_UNO ; Michaelbro ; Effjh ; Larisvdw ; Z_O_D_D ; Infoguy101 ; VaLlDogG ; BonesMalones ; Fantasy_Cloud99; GERM811011; Clint3224;Kmavtwo; Damac10; Havokreeka; Pustoolio; L1verp00Ldct; circlesZA; twaatie; SideShowRuki; Deathjollyproof; Karp0vster; JJTao; Dude-wat-kyk-jy; Drew; Fluffy; DJSpyrot; There-B-NOFX; Vengeful_Bunny; MorneoKelly; NiceDream_420; SA_Chick92; ZeroThomas; jbye14gunner; Seiny_GP; XxElectr0J34NzxX; Darksight101; Lodi-C; NFOOsthuizen and MorneoSparky.
Does the clan have an organisational structure? If yes, what is it?
MoM has a very effective organisational structure ranging between clan leaders, team leaders and squad leaders. Even though all our members bring a unique skill to making MoM a name to remember, these leaders have specific functions they are responsible for in making us a force to be reckoned with on the Battlefield and maintaining the social respect of our fellow community members:
Clan Leader: Miggs7170 [aka Texas Red/His Grace/Fearless Ruler] – Founder, approving authority and visionary. Boosting the morale and war cries of all members with his Texan ideals, words of wisdom and presence.
Deputy Clan Leader: Big_beh_UNO [aka The General/The Bear/Biggie] – Genius strategist and overall warlord leading the clan to countless victories and laughs.
Deputy Clan Leader: LarisvdW [aka Fluffy/Rissie/BoobVader] – Mistress of communication responsible for clan organisation, inter-clan relations, public relations and ultimately bringing sexy back to the Battlefield.
Team Leaders: Big_beh_UNO and InfoGuy101 [MoMS] & BonesMalones and Clint3224 [MoMY] – Drilling their teams to be the ultimate fighting machines with practices and skill improvement exercises, making sure they know match strategies by heart and establishing constant communication with squad leaders in matches to secure the win.
Do you consider yourselves a Battlefield clan? What makes that the game for you?
We are most definitely a Battlefield clan. We feel that the Battlefield franchise demands a much broader skill set when it comes to competitive game play. The element of surprise in competitor attempts never fails to amuse. The variety of options a team has at their disposal to gain an advantage, even for those precious few moments, are incredible. Setting squad perks, classes, weapons and gadgets to micro managing your team mate’s waypoints and defensive positions before and during matches, makes Battlefield the gaming core of MoM.
What other game(s) you enjoy as a clan?
As a clan, MoM specialises in Battlefield with no other games being played competitively or in the same structure. Our individual members do play other games together though, be it against each other or co-operatively, just for the comradely thereof.
Are you exclusively a PS3 clan?
Yes, Battlefield gets played exclusively as a clan on PS3. There are some other dedicated members who play Battlefield on PC as individuals as well though. Once the PS4 gets released we will be an exclusive PS4 Battlefield 4 clan, depending whether we expand to other games.
Are you guys actively recruiting for new players? If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?
Any potential members wishing to join MoM or even just looking for some casual games with us on the Battlefield are always welcome! Contact LarisvdW [PSN & SAGamer ID] and she’ll hook you up. We do have some requirements when selecting potential members to join us:
1. Members must own and play at least 1 of the clan’s official games.
2. Members must own and use a mic when playing with the clan.
3. There is an age limit of 20 and up, exceptions through a 2/3 majority vote.
4. New members need a 3 member recommendation and a tryout to be considered.
5. Treat your fellow members and members of the SAGamer Community with respect.
6. Checking your ego at the door.
7. Clan business stays between clan members and in our personal subforum.
Do you consider yourselves a competitive clan, or one in it more for “shits and giggles”?
MoM has always been known as the ‘sh1t5 and giggles’ clan as we have so much fun when playing casually. However, during practices and matches we take things very seriously. Our aim is to be seen amongst the elite clans in the Community, instilling fear amongst fellow clans on the Battlefield but still being respected as social members of the Community.
Won any tournaments you feel like bragging about?
We would like to brag about being voted as the Best Clan of 2012 by the SAGamer Community. This award is shared with NiN – much respect to our NiN brothers. As far as winning any tournaments… not yet, but watch this space!
What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?
MoM is just over 2 years old now and it hasn’t all been smooth sailing since then. We have said goodbye to old friends, been battered and bruised on the Battlefield and even had our fair share of arguments with each other at times. The thing to cherish though is that we have had the courage to pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and soldier on. As for the future, we would like to keep pushing MoM to the next levels of competitive gaming whilst still remaining grounded enough to have fun and laugh at each other. We have never set limits to what we hope to achieve. Whatever the future throws at us will get its @$$ kicked!
Which opposing clan(s) do you most respect (or hate…)?
We never underestimate any of our opponents and honestly do respect all our fellow clans out there. MoM takes pride in being known as the clan that makes love… not C4.
In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?
The recognition of South Africa as a Community worth supporting by game developers and sponsors. At the moment we have very few servers hosted internationally and very little international rep in world events. Support for your fellow local clans starts at home tough, and a single ‘like’ or positive comment towards their efforts really goes a long way.
Right, let’s have a little fun…
If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…
Rockstars, oh wait we already are! Professional Strippers or Zombie Slayers…
War movie that best describes the clan – Platoon or Tropic Thunder?
Tropic Thunder for sure – our members are hella crazy!
If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?
Disturbed – Indestructible; or
A Perfect Circle – Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drum.
Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you have to go back to the Battlefield again?
‘Would you like your teabag in or out?’
