Yesterday marked the reveal of the next generation Xbox console, the Xbox One. The event brought with it the announcement of some exciting new titles, that will potentially unlock hours of pure gaming pleasure. Today we will dive into the the world of the next generation games that will lead us on a journey through to the new era of gaming.
During the Xbox One event we were introduced to Andrew Wilson, the Executive Vice President at EA SPORTS. He shed light on the new titles the we could expect to see on the Xbox One namely Fifa 14, NBA Live, Madden NFL and UFC. All four titles are expected to be launched within the next 12 months and, according to Andrew Wilson, "will be revolutionary and will fundamentally change the way you play".
One of the new additions to the EA Sports franchise is the of the new gaming engine, EA Sports Ignite. Ignite is designed to 'blur the line between virtual and real' and will allow gamers to feel ever closer to their superheroes on tv. Take a look at exactly what they are talking about :
One of the major announcements from EA on the night had to do with Fifa 14. The announcement was that of the fan favourite feature the the Fifa series, Ultimate teams, and that it would now be exclusive to the Xbox 360.
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Earlier this year it was announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts would make its first unveiling to the public at the next generation Xbox reveal. This brought a lot of attention to the publishers, Activision, to put up a big display to display what the standard of the next generation of first-person-shooters (FPS) should live up to.
They introduced three main elements that will be used as the base of the next Call of Duty title being the new engine, new story and the 'changed' multiplayer experience.
The story of the next Call of Duty is set 10 years after a devastating attack on America, that has left the country crippled. You take up the role of a new force, Ghosts, a team that is a combination of all the American forces that operate through stealth and intelligent combat. The campaign will also see the addition of a new team mate, which is a dog. The campaign has been written by Oscar award winning Steven Gaghan, who is attempting to make this the most emotionally intriguing Call of Duty to date.
The New engine in Call of Duty: Ghosts has seen a drastic leap in graphical performance from its predecessor Modern Warfare 3. The new engine places particular reference to a feature known as sub-D, which essentially means that the closer a player gets to an object the more that the object tries to retain its curvature. This is feature will allow for greater 'visual fidelity', which basically means that the graphics will look very pretty.
Lastly the Multiplayer experience highlighted two key features for Call of Duty: Ghosts, being the new dynamic maps and character customization. Dynamic maps will see the the elements of uncontrolled factors such as floods and earthquakes that will change the way in which players will respond to certain in game situations. There will also be the addition of player driven actions such as doors, explosive traps and much more that will change the 'flow of the map'.
Character customization will allow players to choose exactly how they model their character, which means that players will be able to select from several different feature to make their characters unique. These features that the players will be able to change range from changing the the way your helmet looks to the way the gear on your character is used.
With regard to multiplayer, it sounds like more of the same promises that we have heard from previous Call of Duty titles, lets see if these features really turn out to be as remarkable as they promised.
Forza Motorsports 5
One of the most exciting announcements for racing fans was that of Forza Motorsport 5, the new exclusive title to the Xbox One. At the event the not much was said regarding the title but you don't need words when you watch the trailer, which shows off exactly what the Xbox One graphics can achieve.
One of the most exciting factors coming out from the trailer is that of the commentary. It looks like Forza 5 will be one of the first racing titles to incorporate commentary into the title, which I personally think will be a great addition to series.
Quantum Break was one of the most interesting announcements at the Xbox One reveal, as it left most of us interested yet confused at the same time. It turns out that Quantum Break will blend TV with gaming for a revolutionary gaming experience. The title is created by Remedy Entertainment, responsible for tiles such as Max Payne and Alane Wake, and they had the following to say regarding their next big game:
"The next generation of consoles will reinvigorate our industry and make it possible for us to deliver incredible new entertainment to gamers," Guillemot said in the release. "Our teams are using the innovations in connectivity, immersion and social gaming included in Xbox One to create original and memorable next-gen gaming experiences."
Another piece of information regarding Quantum Break relates to the gameplay. Apparently the way you play the game will impact the show, and the show will inform you on how to play the game. It all seems a bit unclear at the moment, and more is expected to be announced at E3 in June.
