Despite peoples complaints about Diablo III, most gamers would agree that Blizzard is still an uber-developer. They don't release many games and take their time to put out the games they do release, but the fans benefits from that by getting consistently high quality experiences. With that infrequency of theirs in mind, Blizzard is one of the few developers that can legitimately get away with announcing they're going to announce a new game in the near future. In point of fact, Blizzard has done just that, sending word to a number of international gaming press establishments letting them know that a new game announcement is forthcoming and will be revealed at Boston's Penny Arcade Expo East next month.

"We've been working on a little something, different from our other games, and we're pleased to invite you to be the first to see it," the company wrote in an email. "It's not a sequel, expansion or that rumored next-gen MMO, but it's something we're excited for you to get your hands on."

When you consider that Blizzard's entire output since 1998 has either been a Diablo game or something with the word 'Craft' in the title, the idea of something completely and utterly new - something that isn't a sequel, spin-off or expansion - from the group is pretty damned intriguing, if not exciting. And it should also be noted that their email specifically ruled out the long-rumoured Massively Multiplayer Online game code-named Titan, which some thought/hoped they going to announce when the took the stage at the PS4 reveal.

It is possible that the game in question may be Blizzard All-Stars, a multiplayer online battle arena game, that was first unveiled back at Blizzcon 2010 as a Starcraft II custom map, which then evolved into the standalone Blizzard Dota. That game, of course was the subject of a lengthy court battle with Valve, which resulted in a court settlement giving Valve use of the Dota name.

Whatever Blizzard is planning, they have our collective attention and we'll keep you informed as soon as the news breaks.
