Sector 17 may not be an unfamiliar name to some.  It is also a name associated with the Sector 17 Gaming Lounge in Port Elizabeth.  They are legion indeed…

When did Sector 17 (the clan) form?

That is classified.

How many members were there at the start and what was the game of choice?

We started with 5 guys playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Homefront.

How many members are you currently?  Keen to give out their names, credit card details and ID numbers?
Alright, only Gamertags will do.

Ha ha ha …. Our Legion consists of 18 members playing in different teams.

Major General –  Sector Coach (Captain of Team LaTvia)
Major General – Dig1tal NINJA (Captain of Team Takticheskiy)

Soldier – Invisible Joker (Takicheskiy)
Soldier – Sonic Choase (Ubiytsy)
Soldier – invisible joker
Soldier – Ghost xx ZA

The Sector 17 shop is based in Port Elizabeth – are most of the clan’s members too?

All our players are from Port Elizabeth except four. Due to a good performance in recent clan matches we decided to allow them to be part of our legion. Mortal8 and DiGital ApexX, Invisible joker and Sonic Choase.

What is the clan’s organisational structure?

Well…..Sector Coach handles the Facebook and twitter accounts, Dig1TAL NINJA maintain our website, Puppetmaster7ZA does all the recruiting and trails and all the Captains organize their own clan matches.

How often do you try to play together as a clan?

We have clan practice every Saturday. Where we report back on our states and team performances after clan matches.

Have you entered any tournaments?  Any that you care to brag about?

Nothing to brag about yet but we sure made some of the clans count their words.

Competed in the following tournament:

  • King of the console hosted by clan connection
  • Final Stand hosted by clan connection
  • 2 v 2 Search and Destroy hosted by gaming cartel
  • Battlefield 3 squad rush hosted by DTF
  • UFC Undisputed 3 tournament

We did indeed achieve our entire objectives for this year.

Would you consider yourselves as a clan: serious, competitive or one in it for laughs?

We used to game just for the fun but after discovering the frills in competitive gaming, we are full on serious competitive gamers.

What is the clan’s main current game?  Any other games that the clan plays as a change of pace?

Our main game was MW3 but the time has come for Black ops 2 to takes its place.

Other games that our clan enjoy are: Battlefield 3, UFC 3, WWE 13, Forza 4, Grind, Pokémon and Borderlands.

Is attending LANs important to the clan and its members – especially considering the lack of LANs in the console scene?

Yes, we are even planning a trip down to Cape Town to visit some gatherings and show the other clans that LAG will not save them …..

Are you guys actively recruiting for new players?  If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?

Yes we are recruiting; all recruitment is done through puppetmaster7ZA on the last Saturday of the month or they can leave us a message on our Facebook page (Sector 17 Gaming). The requirement to join our clan is you have to stay in Port Elizabeth, We will consider gamers from other cities if he or she shows commitment and performance during clan matches on their trial period.

What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?

We would like to be in the top 5 SA clans in the next 2 years and then even take over the world ….he he he he he.

Which opposing clan(s) do you most respect or hate?

From playing on XBL you get the chance to face some of the best clans in SA but I don’t think it is always the clans that you need to respect but the people in those clans. Here is a big shout out for those gamers Dastrix (H5) Annihilator (Dmw), Parlax (Wv), Firefly, Zeus XII( NBS ), Gabriel XII, Xx Wrath xX (21 ct), FatherNi9htRoad(21 ct), Rebel baxims (RA 5) Dynamo (Dv), Illusionist (H5) and Rebel Pretzel (RA 5).

And hate…. Well that is a strong question to ask but yes we have a list of gamers that we don’t respect simply because they are using cheats ( Lag switching) in tournaments and clan matches to keep their egos and Clan status.  Let this be a warning to them. We know who you are and we are COMING FOR YOU!!

In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?

It would be nice to see some more sponsorship and public media advertising. Once people see that there are big names as sponsors or in public media will they realize that gaming is not just a game anymore but multi level communication and network opportunities.

Right, let’s have a little fun…

If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…

… a bunch of overweight male strippers.

War movie that best describes the clan – Platoon or Tropic Thunder?

Ha ha ha…  Tropic Thunder…

If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?

‘We will not die’ by Three days grace.

Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you head back out onto the virtual battlefield?

I want to thank all the gamers from Port Elizabeth and our newbie’s for their support and loyalty to Sector 17 Gaming. You guys are true gamers and friends – Together We Will Rise “Kopa mes Pieaught”.
